Description here's a full page illo that appears in the current issue (february 2011) of scientific american .

the story details how people in different areas of the world have different spatial relationships with their environments because of the ways that their languages shape their thought processes. pretty wild stuff.

it was a last-minute assignment (so i had to turn it around pretty quickly), but i'm really happy with the result. and as always, i get a charge out of wandering into a bookstore and finding something i helped to create on the magazine rack.

As an aspiring Psychologist, this one is probably my favorite (although I am rather fond of your Invader Zim Calendar Excerpt, despite the fact that you have never seen it!)!! Braaains!

I stumbled across your work on Tuts+ and followed you here and your website. Saw that this piece was in SciAm and coincidentally, that issue lay on my ottoman at my feet. So I opened it up and sure enough, there it was!

Love your art deco style for modern culture. I could see framing your works on my walls.

Language shaping thought was one of the premises of control that George Orwell wrote into his novel "1984".

Lovely work.

That article sounds a lot like something I read in the NYT a few months ago, about the tribe that has no concept of cardinal directions and so on. Really fascinating stuff.

As a former student of translation, I'm familiar with the concept of how our native language defines our way of thinking and ultimately shapes the concepts we have about reality.

Not an easy thing to illustrate in a non-verbal way...

A great illustration - It depicts the "world-shaping"-process, with which we continue to shape our individual reality (and also the "input" we rely on to do this).

Sounds like an interesting article, I'll have to check it out.

Brilliant work here. As paco850 said, the colors are warm and lovely, and I like the compass analogy you used!
