Description

As Chell walked into the new test chamber, she noted its general emptiness. There was seemingly nothing in the room aside from a raised grated platform and the exit door. As she puzzled what this might mean, the familiar speakers hummed to life.

"Today you have the honor of testing a brand new device I've been working on," GLaDOS said happily (perhaps too happily). "I'll leave what exactly it does as a surprise, simply step onto the grate and the exit door will open."

Chell was rightfully suspicious of this new object presented to her, but she didn't see any other options to proceed. Warily, she stepped onto the object and anxiously awaited whatever the result would be. The door indeed opened, but before she could step towards it, a plume of cold blue vapor shot up from beneath her, lifting her off the ground and chilling her to her core. When the cloud had dissipated, she realized she could no longer move a muscle! She had been encased in a giant crystal of ice!

Amidst her futile struggling, she could hear the voice of her captor again, though slightly muffled this time through the frozen sheet. "Very well done, I'd expect nothing different from you. Clearly your skill at walking slight distances is what has kept you alive all this time."

Even within the block of ice, Chell could still muster the strength to roll her eyes at GLaDOS's sarcastic jabs.

After several seconds, GLaDOS piped up again. "I notice you aren't proceeding to the elevator. Is this another one of your tantrums? Well, the door is open, so whenever you decide you would like to act like an adult about all this, feel free to waddle your little body to the chamberlock so we can move on. I can wait. In fact I have plenty of new toys I'm working on back here, so there's no rush."

The speakers clicked off again, and Chell was left to the silence of her icy prison. With nothing to do but wait for... something to happen, she sighed through her teeth as best she could. How long does it take ice to melt again?

I'm baaaa-aaaack! At least I hope so. After I tried and failed to do art more consistently last year, I had a stressful senior year of college followed by an even more stressful search for an income and a place to live. But now I think I'm more or less back on my feet energy-wise, so you may see art production begin to pick up somewhat again. Well, after the holidays anyway...
