Description
Most artists have probably at least once in their career felt intimidated by drawing hands. I remember drawing characters with their hands hidden behind their backs (and with their feet in a body of water), since getting the right proportions on them felt like an unsurmountable task. The only cure to overcoming this obstacle is practice. Therefore, for those who are interested, I am going to provide some reference material to use as guide to getting better at drawing hands.
I drew these hands in photoshop, adding some light shadow to convey volume. The best references are of course hands in real life, but with this sheet I wanted to provide some ideas of how you can alter line width to get somewhat natural looking hands using only lines and simple shadow (as opposed to drawing completely photorealistically).
This kind of style can be used quite effectively when drawing comic style pictures (manga, etc.).
If you use these hands to practice or for reference when drawing your own characters, I would love to see the result, so please link it
