what exactly IS the red pyramid? I know he's the death guardian or something in Silent Hil..but I've only seen the movie..never had a chance to play any of the games..what IS he? what was he before he was "appointed" this position from Alessa?

Pyramid Head is a conundrum. In Silent Hill 2 he is a manifestation of James's guilt for having done a very bad deed. Since you haven't played the game, I won't go into any details of what he did. Pyramid Head shows up a number of times, fighting James and filling the role of judge, jury, and executioner if you get killed by him. At the historical society building, there is a painting of dear old PH on the wall, indicating a tie with the town's past, when men wearing red, triangular hoods served as executioners and guardians of the town in service to the town's gods. There is a lot more I could say about him, but it might be better if you gave this site a look-see:

Fantastic work. I thought that you contructed the body yourself But you say its a spawn redeemer, is it the redeemer 2 (without wings etc) ? Also - the legs must be different to the redeemer 2, did you melt the backs of the legs and re-shape, or did you construct new legs?

Thanks for the excellent work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

suggadug In reply to ArtyBee [2007-10-29 21:34:39 +0000 UTC]

The Redeemer I used for the base is the most recent one made by McFarlane from series 25. The figure had slots in the back for the wings, but these were filled in and sculpted over. His legs were amputated, one at the hip and one at the knee, and then reconstructed with nails anchored in the stubs and sculpted over with a sculpting compound I use called Apoxie sculpt. The torso is the basic shape of the Redeemer, but sanded and smoothed and sculpted over with fine detail.

Thanks for your interest in my work!

Fantastic!! I can't wait to make one When its done I will try and post up some pics, you have a really good eye for a good pose and materials to make the P head, its THE best I have seen.
All you need to do is post this up and the SPAWN forums, and the members will go crazy for it. You would easily make some serious bucks if you sold a bunch of these.

I have been drawing concepts and ideas for years, and since Mcfarlane do the same sort of uninspired figures all the time (predator... etc) alot of characters which would make amazing figures never get made.
Searching about making a pyramid head custom, and trying to find out about materials lead me to your work.
Amazing stuff, mostly - I am just looking forward to having one sitting on my desk!! I am Djing on Halloween and plan on dressing up as Pyramid Head in the box heh heh. Its a great character, and you made an awesome model of it!!

Do you have any pictures of the process of making your stuff?
Thanks for the message and information!

Thanks, I would like to see how yours turns out! If you get stuck or need advice, let me know.

I'm actually a member on Spawn, same user name and everything Some people did go nuts! I completely agree on the mundane run-of-the-mill licenses that get made instead of unique properties like SH (though I am an Alien and Predator fan). Since the movie has been out for a long time now it seems McFarlane won't lift a finger to get the license. The best bet is for NECA to get the game license for their Player Select line. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get SH V in the future.

DJ Pyramid Head sounds cool as hell. Post pics!

I have a few work in progress shots of the first one I did in the current style; I'll put those up in a few...

Trying to put up pics of my costume, it only took an hour to make, and had to be "apropriate" as there were kids in the room, so I had to cover up my top half. hehe.
The head is extremely basic, made out of supermarket apple boxes, sellotape and two sheets of A4, painted with acrylics black and red and some yellow to mix.
The "body" and the apron is a cream fitted bed sheet, tied at the back to fit.

Hey - I am getting some apoxie stuff for christmas (for myself). But need a small list of things, and some more advice.

What paints did you use for the skin on the P head custom?
How did you make the head itself?

I will be getting a dremel (a cheap one, with lots of bits) so I can cut, sand and... etc! Should come in handy when cutting off bits of the spawn redeemer figure.

Let me know as much as you can, because I will be spending christmas day making it
Thanks again!!!

Ha, the costume looks good for just an hour's work! Did the playlist go with the SH theme? Lol @ the marker muscles; that's class.

For painting sculptures of any kind, I find that acrylics work the best. Any acrylic will do. I buy all my paints from Wal-Mart, so either Folk Art or Apple Barrel (don't know if you get those in the UK). Just find some good, cheap acrylics in colors like black, white, yellow, red, and dark brown. You can always mix these main colors to achieve lighter ones and darker ones as you see fit, just don't get acrylic enamels because these won't mix with water and take forever to dry. You'll also need to try your hand at washes (simple paint and water mix) for shadows and stains on the apron, etc.

The head/helmet is made from Lucite, a type of plexiglass that I buy in small panes from a hardware store. Any sort of quality sheet plastic will do, however. I then draw the geometry of the individual pieces of the helmet on the plastic and cut these pieces out with the dremel tool. It helps if you draw the pieces on paper first and get all the angles right before cutting plastic. After you have the rough plastic pieces, you'll need to sand the inside edges at an appropriate angle to lean in toward the center, at which you'll need a central, or dorsal piece of plastic running from the nose to the tip of the helmet and onto a shoulder piece (rectangular) that should be long enough to span the distance from the middle of one shoulder to the middle of the other shoulder. The shoulder piece is the most important piece of the entire helmet. Using it, you can align the nose and point at the top to the exact center, so it will appear symmetrical. The nose triangle needs a base of the same width as the length of the shoulder piece. The length of the nose needs to be as long as the distance from the shoulder to a little below the waist. The next part is the most tedious and annoying part of the entire process, the cheek pieces. These can only be constructed when you've got a three-piece frame assembled consisting of the shoulder piece, nose, and dorsal piece. The cheek pieces are the ones with the little knobs sticking out on the sides, and have to fit on either side of the dorsal piece. The angle of these is very important, and you'll need to scrape the inside edges on some sand paper or be very accurate with the dremel so you get a clean, angled edge that fits flush with the nose triangle and the dorsal. When you have the correct shape, you draw a smaller triangle on the cheek piece with the same geometry as the cheek piece itself. This smaller triangle is then cut to a very minimal depth using first a cutting dremel bit, then a grinding bit. Make sure you don't push down too hard and cut all the way through. Also make sure you keep to the drawn lines with the cutting bit. Once you have a triangular depression in the plastic, draw a grid on the depression with dots at each intersection and use a very small drill bit (find a drill bit and some very small nails with matching diameters) to drill out the dots. Using a wire clipper (I recommend combination needle nose pliers with wire cutter) and dremel, clip the nail into segments that will stick out of the surface. Holding a nail section in your hand, very carefully grind one side smooth and flat, to be visible on the outside-facing part of the cheek piece. Make sure to use the pliers to pull the nails out or push in so they are the same height sticking out of the surface. Once you've got these made, glue them (forgot to mention - I use super glue to hold the pieces in place since it's fast-setting glue, and epoxy glue to permanently hold the pieces. Epoxy is great stuff, but you have to use a toothpick or something to keep it in the lines because it'll run if you're not careful)to the dorsal and nose pieces. Next are the ear pieces, the ones on each side with the double knobs sticking out. Draw (also forgot to mention you will definitely need a ruler to make exact drawings) and cut triangles to match the space. Now, make dots for where you want the knobs to be, and find a couple of nails with a small-ish diameter and repeat the process used with the cheek pieces (luckily it's only two this time!) When these are done, cut a trapezoidal piece for the shoulder blade guard piece, which is at a downward angle in the back. The angle should be just enough that the piece cups the back of the shoulder. All that's left now are the pieces at the back of the helmet, which should be fairly easy to remedy once you've gotten this far. When you've got them in place, you'll need to find a gear of some sort, like a clock or something similar, and drill a hole into the back of the helmet, in the center, anchoring the gear with a nail and some epoxy glue or Apoxie sculpt. Now drill a hole above each shoulder and glue a small nail. Now take your Apoxie sculpt and sculpt panels stretching from the ear pieces around and down to the shoulder guard. Sculpt a small ring around each nail in the back, as well. After that, there isn't much more to do. Sculpt a panel stretching around the point and smooth out the point with fine grit sandpaper to it looks sharp. Finally, the hoses on the cheeks. You'll need small mounting nails with ridges for this. Clip the nails to the appropriate length, and using the dremel, grind away one half of the nail down its length. Position it on the helmet and super glue it, then use epoxy glue. Lastly, sculpt end caps on the nails as seen on the movie poster, and you're done! Whew!

I'm putting up a few reference pics to help convey what I'm talking about. I hope the instructions didn't daunt you. I anticipate you may need more help as your project progresses; God speed and good luck!
