I guess from John's perspective a strong value of his would me to maintain some form of maturity between himself and his flatmate... but it's shameless destroyed by Sherlock's childish knack of things knowing he probably didn't have a childhood (reliving it in his adult form.)

Maturity is overrated. Tense is the new sexy!
Sherlock knows how social behaviour works, but he never learnt why people use it. To him, it's a tool to understand why subjects of his cases behave the way they do. Using it himself, in private, is a totally different thing. And really, when he's bored, how can the whole world not be?! As if there was anything like, say, hobbies.
