It's been about 3 or so months of thinking, writing ideas down, talking to a friend, sketching, planning, designing, etc.
Finally I have something new to show, and some more exciting news (well... to me anyway...).

The closed-species I have been working on, the "Kiju" species, is finally available for anyone to come join the community and create their own character designs, stories, and maybe make some new friends.

I realise that "Closed-species" is kind of a dirty word on the internet, and I'm doing my best to ensure that my species doesn't live up to that kind of reputation. Anyone is able to earn Kinzu (the currency) by creating artwork and submitting it in the Discord server, and then spend that currency to be able to create their own Kiju, while the only real-money purchases would be the odd adoptable here and there.

But I've done something a bit different with this species.

I have an interest in biology, and I wanted a bit more nuance to actually creating character designs, but in a sort of gamey kind of way.
Instead of ponying up and paying more currency to get more "desirable" traits, the Kiju species has a genetics system that uses dice rolls and pairing to determine the traits you can use (generally just called genes). This goes beyond dictating what physical traits you can use, as broad groups of colours and types of markings and their locations is determined by your Kiju's genes.

The best way to get the genes you want? Pair up your Kiju with another to combine their genes and give yourself more options!

I wanted to balance creativity and genetics with this species to come up with something unique, while keeping the barrier of entry low enough that no one needs to spend any real money.

But I also wanted to cultivate an environment where there is more to the species than coming up with character designs. I would also love to come up with lore, stories, and develop the world that these creatures live in.
I've got some ideas that I've been juggling in my head for a while, but my focus has been on getting the Kiju species ready for others to join in and come up with their own designs.

Now a major reason why this is a closed-species is to maintain quality, and there will be incentives for better quality work to be produced. An example I can point to that everyone knows of is the Sergal species. It's an open-species that allows anyone to freely create their own characters, and that's fantastic, as it allows anyone to enjoy the species in whatever way they want. But if you Google images of Sergals, how many of them actually follow the right anatomy? Things like them having 4 digits per hand/foot, a pointed breast-bone, lanky builds, males and females physically looking the same.

As the species is still new, there are things I'm working on, and some things that are incomplete. But what was needed to go from nothing to getting an MYO (Make Your Own) ticket, and then submitting a design to be added to the Masterlist is all there.
