Applejack is the middle Apple child, and the one who inherited Sweet Apple Acres when Granny Smith passed at the ripe old age of 200 years old. Running the apple farm had always been her dream, and she has a real knack for business. Unlike most of her friends and family, she never left Ponyville at all, and threw herself into work to distract herself from her loneliness. When her old friend Rarity left Canterlot and her husband, Fancy Pants, behind, Applejack opened her home to her wayward friend. This closeness rekindled an old spark between the two, and eventually they married. Since then, Sweet Apple Acres has grown into a huge business with merchandise and other apple goods under the direction of Applejack and Rarity

Rarity is the oldest of the Belle family, and always knew she was meant for great things. After being swept up in a whirlwind romance with Canterlot elite Fancy Pants, she and him had a single daughter, Filigree Ajour. However... Fancy Pants's affections clearly lied elsewhere, and the love Rarity had for him faded from romantic. The two broke it off after three years, fairly amicably, but Rarity was still lost with her place in the world. Returning to Ponyville, she stayed with her old friend Applejack, and the two rekindled their old spark into romance. They married, and Rarity's second marriage went much better than the first, producing four wonderful children.

Appletini, the oldest of the Apple children, is a pony who was never meant to stay in Ponyville. Inheriting his unicorn mother’s horn, he fits right into Canterlot's unicorn-dominant culture, where he is prolific in the party and club scene. He works as a bartender (but the kind who does tricks and shows off) at a prominent club in Canterlot. His special talent is mixology. He's a bit of a player, but seems to be afraid of commitment... He's gay and tends to go for bad boy type ponies, though he doesn't think he'll ever find 'the one'.

Red Baroness inherited her earth pony mother’s strength and stature and her unicorn mother's horn, making her excellent at sports and, particularly, her chosen sport of cheerleading and gymnastics. She is a massive diva and very much a 'mean girl', but is hardworking and dedicated, and incredibly loyal to her best friends, Blitz and Toppit. She’ll do anything it takes to get what she wants. She’s dating Thunder Egg Pie, but that’s mostly for posterity. Her special talent is gymnastics/cheerleading. She's bisexual, and has a complicated mutual pining relationship with her ex-childhood best friend, Pepper Jack.

Cider Squeeze is the youngest, and most boisterous, of the Apple children. He has a habit for getting into trouble (and mud, much to Rarity’s disapproval), and tends to bring home stray animals a lot. He has a big heart and is a bit of a crybaby, but he always tries to make others around him happy. His special talent is cider-making, and his favorite time of year is cider season! He's gay, but he's less interested in boys right now than he is in bugs.

Gala May (birth name: Cripps Pink) is the second daughter, and the softer of the two. She is a proper southern belle, and loves cooking her Granny Smith’s recipes. She’s sweet and kind, and tries her hardest to be nice to everyone, even when she doesn’t like them. She aspires to be as elegant and refined as her unicorn mother, and even shares her knack for sewing. She can be a bit of a pushover at times, especially to her older brother and sister. She is transgender and gay, and her special talent is collecting recipes.

Filigree Ajour was very young when her parents split, and stayed with her father in Canterlot. A pureblooded unicorn, she excelled in her studies and social life, becoming a world-renown jewelry maker and gem appraiser. She is fairly cold and aloof, especially around ponies she doesn't know, and has thus earned herself the moniker of Ice Queen of Canterlot. She is somewhat estranged from her mother -- though Rarity and Fancy Pants get along, she holds some resentment for her mother for leaving her father, with whom she is very close. She is much closer with her half-siblings by Fancy Pants than her half-siblings by Rarity, though she is staying with the Apples over the summer for "product research" -- and Rarity's attempt to have her rejoin the family.
