It's now already been a year since the fabled "Mariopocalypse" of 2021, the day that made the Mario series' 35th birthday not so happy. What was meant to be a time of celebration was bogged by how many of the celebratory material like 3D All Stars and Mario 35 would be taken down on that day. People joked that this would be the day Mario died.

Looking back, it's kind of funny. Even when 3D All Stars was supposedly wiped off the face of the earth on digital storefronts, I've still found plenty of physical copies still in stores that aren't being hocked by scalpers, and even the Mario 35th game and watch still had some unsold copies lying around. Probably just a simple case of supply versus demand. The battle royale game looks to be the only one that truly perished.

So, I ask, did Mario really "die"? Of course not! That still doesn't change the fact making all these releases limited was a very bad move on Nintendo's part, but there is far worse they could've done.

With that all now behind us, let's look to the future and hope that the franchise's 40th birthday in 2025 will be just a wee bit happier!
