HOO boy, my first ever character sheet commission! Quite the dramatic first one, isn't it? This sheet, by the way, is for Series's Sonic OC, ZX the Shooting Star, specifically his "True Form". This was...interesting to work on for a couple reasons. For one, it's been a hot minute since I've worked on anything Sonic-related, so it was nice being able to revisit one of my favorite fandoms! (Though that does remind me that I have my own character to work on...should probably polish that up soon.) And second...this project really helped illustrate some of the most crucial aspects of character design...and I'd like to go over a couple of these with y'all, if you ever want to make characters of your own someday:
~#1: If you're going to have a character that you're going to be drawing over and over again, it's super important to keep your designs relatively SIMPLE! An overly complex design can lead to it being SUPER tedious to draw on repeat, and can also leave the character looking stiff due to having so many elements to it.
~#2: LIMIT your color palette! Having too many colors on a character can make them look way too busy and cluttered, with your eyes not really being able to focus on any specific part of the design. While the exact number is ultimately up to you, I'd personally recommend, say...4-6 colors in your palette.

There's definitely more I could say, but I personally think the two points I gave are the two biggest tips I can give for anyone looking to make their own characters or wanting to refine characters they've already made. Either way, you've heard be ramble on enough. The rest of this is going to be character points you see illustrated in the piece, so I'm gonna peace out for now! 1: Side view of the head. Shows off tongue, which long, pointed, and a sort of metallic blue color.

2: Back view of head. Headshape is similar to the more traditional hedgehog-style shape, but not quite the same.

3: A star-shaped gemstone that acts as his "core", presumably housing most of his powers.

4: ZX's finishing move; a 5-pointed shuriken-shaped ball of energy akin to Sonic's spindash attack...just on a MUCH grander scale.

5: The energy making up his "wings" can be molded and shaped into different forms, usually acting as a form of secondary arms.

6: A sort of battle-hungry pose that's supposed to show off his gauntlets, which has special links in the fingers that are built to form sort of spikes when made into a fist.
