But yeah i did and i just dont have the cash i need to get one, with out a job im having a hard time paying the bills and keeping a roof over my head alone with eating. College was good but took all my savings from working. When i get some cash tho that and a Digital SLR are on my list to get.

I watched a freind play 2 and parts of 1 and i got it to be a tourest in it as i love the desgin work on it.

Yeah college sucks on the pocket book, Loans are a nono unless you have to, Grants are best but some are hard to get, school programs help, also some reward you for good grades and things, and best of all is a full ride scolarship, rare to get but man wish i had it for art. I started by working and paying my classes as i went, then when i went back i got finacial aid, but thats done by credits and you have to be in the right thing for it, talk with them as they will set you up. Also biggest thing choose a school that fits you, not a name or price tag, but a program they offer you want to do. College is a huge investment in time and money make it count bro if you go, sometimes its a huge watse of both.

Yeah, that's my whole attraction too.

Yeah the art scholarships near me are just ridiculous garbage.
Yeah, I don't know if I'll ever go that route, just doing my own thing, I think a year of college or a decent car, an education or part of a house, ya know?

SurfTiki In reply to Dylanio21 [2011-09-12 06:23:33 +0000 UTC]

Well for college heres my advise.
Unless you want to teach art related stuff, screw college.
In the Carolinas thier are some amazing work shops by pros and some do one on one for really cheap, thiers also taking with a company/artist to work under them as a appertace to learn and hone your skills.
I didnt get to much from college other than higher skills by having a professor thier to tell me what they saw i should do to improve. The experancie was great and the time wasnt poorly spent but i dont have a degree after 4 years, and i dont have a job in it. And i was going to the chepest JC i could go to as well, most are 30K plus a year for universaty level. For that i agree a car and a house is more worth it as schooling is out of control.
I'd say do you research before you comment, times are hard and education wasnt what its was 10-20 years ago, The skills you need might come from years of pratice tho, id say stick with Tradital skills as digital would give you a one of a kind orginal that can sell as its all prints or digital art sale, Hand done art is the key...Life drawing classes if anything for a college, its the base of all figure drawing.

Dylanio21 In reply to SurfTiki [2011-09-12 22:31:17 +0000 UTC]

Actually I know a lot of people, no art education teaching right now.
That's amazing.
I love apprenticeships, can't find anything.
You live in Carolina?
Yeah definitely on the house and car thing.
Yeah I have been doing a lot of my own thing.
Thanks, solid.

Really, college level or Highschool?
Na, im currently stuck in Northen Califionia, was going to college here.
Thats a good way to devlop a style to do your own thing but it can take alot longer.
Cool, hope it helped.

Well I love that movie as well, it a movie you can watch over and over and its still funny! Why arnt you taking a Reactin? for you allergies?

SurfTiki In reply to caakes [2011-07-29 06:32:54 +0000 UTC]

Its one of my fav movies, i love the goofy funny stuff with the horror element. I like the splt stick stuff, most modern horror moves arnt very good when i see someting like Nosvorastos or Dr. Colgisty's cabnit of horrors...thier really scary. But this one was just aesme and for some reason i really like it and the goof ball that plays ash as well.
Well sometimes it works for allergies if i take some thing but some times it doesnt, the pollen count here is so high i can wash my car, let it sit over night away from trees being next to it and it changes from gold to greenish gold over night, or the cotton woods drop so much fine pollen it acually snows in summer and we had white out conditions this year. Usally im not bad but here thiers just so much of it i can fight it.

caakes In reply to SurfTiki [2011-07-29 16:06:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh man thats alot of pollen, I didnt know there was such thing as a pollen count?!Ididtn know that could exist?! Where are you in the states? Well you can note me that for private reasons too. I heard its good to buy local honey to counter that, but this seems crazy! Hope you get better form this...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SurfTiki In reply to caakes [2011-07-30 01:09:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah pollen count isnt a issue till its a dry enviorment like a desert area. (it the parts per millions)
1st learned about it when i moved to Las Vegas which was about the same as here but thier were more issues thier.
Well Lassen County is in Northern Califorina, hour and a half north of Reno and 2 hours east of Redding/ Lake Shasta.
Yeah thier not really any local honey people but it does work well, Honey has pollen it from the local area its from and helps to build up your immuntiy to it. The wonders of bee vomit.
Yeah once the pollen dies down agian ill be fine, just sucks till then.

caakes In reply to SurfTiki [2011-07-31 19:51:07 +0000 UTC]

Dude ...thats one crazy phenomenon! Well you learn something new everyday?! I can probably google pictures of what it can be like! Do most others suffer the same way in the city you live?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SurfTiki In reply to caakes [2011-07-31 23:05:19 +0000 UTC]

Well most do, this little po' dunk town has alot of pollen trees and bushes. Thiers the desert end of town and the forest end and both let loosse about the same time.
my friend i just moved to Redding jad bad allergies here, and well in Redding both of our allergies went away and we felt much better just after a few hours of unpacking. So just a few hours away with simalr plants we did better, but thier more humity in the air thier tho.

yeah..allergies aren't anything to fool with. luckily I haven't had any problems with mine this year. I usually start taking allergy medicine in the middle of March..get it in my system early to try avoid the dreaded ALLERGY ATTACK.

SurfTiki In reply to skribblboy [2011-07-31 23:00:56 +0000 UTC]

Near Lassen Natinaoal Park, Lassen County, Califorina, hour north of Reno and 2 hours east of Redding.
Its a moutian high desert/ forested area. if it rainned more i think thierd be less problems with allergies. Luckly its only in spring and part of summer.

Man we praying for rain around here cause this heat is no joke..half of my lawn in the backyard is brown and nothing is growing which is good in a way, cause God knows I HATE cutting the yard.

SurfTiki In reply to skribblboy [2011-08-01 07:17:18 +0000 UTC]

wow that sounds like a desert yard, yeah i like the rain as i was rasied in hawaii so a lack of it sucks.
but yeah with lawn work either its relaxing or a task. I dont mind as long as its not hot outside.

skribblboy In reply to SurfTiki [2011-08-05 02:37:45 +0000 UTC]

it's slowly turning into a desert yard and cutting it, to me, is ALWAYS a task. I have a huge backyard with no trees. so when I"m out ther cutting it...I"m roasting like a chicken at the same time.

SurfTiki In reply to skribblboy [2011-08-05 03:59:46 +0000 UTC]

Ha,ha, dang bro, that not fun at all.
We had a full desert yard or or as it was called in Vegas 'zero landscape yard' and it sucked.
Well im not sure were you at off hand but maybe itll get some rain to help ya out, not to much tho.

OK so I was gonna ask how you did this. So do you print it on special paper? Nice lines by the way. cuz regular computer paper is crappy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SurfTiki In reply to caakes [2011-07-27 00:20:23 +0000 UTC]

Ha, Ha. Yeah these were printed on a Ofice printer on thicker Hammermill paper. Its almost like a smooth bristol surface but is just a bit thicker than normal paper, it does take inks well from a pen, Nib and brush tho its doesnt like, so thats tricky to do that stlye on it. Im not sure on the weight tho, and others i did were on a high end printer and that was done with better paper but the mass of 11x17 i have are this way. hope this helps.

And thanks im glad you like the inks i layed down. Still learning the process tho and how to do it all.
