Description
January: I was really struggling this month. I realized that my art was in a place that i was just so unhappy with. Anything that wasnt a sketch looked really awful but also my sketches were looking pretty terrible as well. But all I could do was sketch and play pokemon to get out my funk. improved in; shading?February: I was starting to feel better by this point. I was experimenting, drawing humans, and painting and trying to convince myself that my art work wasnt as bad as it looked. On amino I was taking critique on everything i made. I liked my form and shading but i hated my line art. Improved in; linework, complete interesting pics, and expression
March: still kinda a fucky month for me, liked drawing but didnt like the finished pictures. I also found a much better sketch brush and tried to make my pictires look more interesting with textures. what I was really struggling on was my fullbodies and interesting poses. Improved in; linework and shading, expression
April: I think this was kinda a slow month for me. It was a lot of GOOD human sketches and a good sketch month for me. Improved on; Silhouette and cleaner sketches
May: I would like to say this was a good color month for me! I was trying to pay attention to the colors i chose for shading instead of slapping on a cute purple color. My finished pieces were also getting a little more interesting and finalized. Everything looked pretty ok this month... except for my humans which i was diving into. Improved in; Colors and anatomy
June: This was a better painting month than it was a drawing month. I was having fun using photos as references to make some fun paintings that were true to my style. Improved in; color and painting
July: BIG DRAWING MONTH!!! LOTS OF ART!! And PROBABLY MY MOST IMPROVEMENT IN ONE MONTH! I started rewatching inuyasha this month which probably saved my art to be quite honest. I felt really stuck those other months and this month just really set the stage for some good pieces. I applied the human art skills i was obtaining to my animal/furry art and i really wanted to do this for a long time but didnt find any interest in drawing humans. improved in; anatomy and poses
August: Another good human drawing month. I was able to actually draw humans free handedly that looked pretty nice. I also decided to try to make more pictures with interesting backgrounds and prospective. I was still watching inuyasha and still drawing human art so i was happy with myself even if most of it was sketches. improved in; anatomy, prospective, more interesting works, lineart?
September: In this month I was just trying to apply my new found skills to art i like to draw. Towards the end of this month I was finding new friends on a discord server and it kinda made me stop posting on social media for just a bit. I was kinda feeling.... weird this month though. I liked my art but... it didnt feel like me. improved in; lineart and confidence in work
October: This was a month i wasnt really caring about being proffessional. I now knew i had an art style and I was just kinda doing things for fun until i started taking more furry commissions.... This was actually destroying me. I was pretty active on furry amino and it was really bad on there and i didnt like that i was getting a lot of attention for things i wasnt very proud of. I also stopped posting on deviantart for whatever reason, i think it was just easier to post on furry amino and to this new discord server i was in . improved in; ???
November: I was trying to take matters into my own hands by experimenting in some new line art styles and i was really enjoying that. But my audience on DA and furry amino were not interested it seemed? And again i was thinking about how the things i really enjoyed werent getting as much attention... Towards the end of the month i started to realize it was furry amino that was bugging me. Furry amino is not a good place for me in all directions especially since i was taking commissions on there. Another thing that was going on during this time was some internal conflict and i stopped drawing as much as i used to. It was bad. improved in; lineart
December: im still recovering from november. but the good news is the sketches that i have made recently have been better. for a few days i actually thought i forgot how to draw because of how long i wasnt drawing. So far its just sketches with a very finalized and charismatic art style. And i like that. Improved in; recovering
Overal: I would say this was a really rough but good year. I had one goal in mind this year and that was to improve and take my art work seriously. And i did and im happy with the results. Last year I didnt like my art and I think I felt like i improved backwards. For this year i definitely improved but there was some big bumps especially towards the end. I think I also feel less pressured since I have reminded myself that art may not be my main career, I want to explore other careers as well see what options are out there. I have def improved in EVERYTHING from shading to anatomy to expressions.
what id like to improve in 2018:
Realism and shading.
