Description
so...i decided to do a remake of the "dead series 1" [link] as it had many faults that u ppl pointed out as well. those things haunted me and i wanted to know if i could do better. i knew i could and i know there's _still_ room for improvement.anyway so what did i do differently ? not all things can be seen in this pic but i'll list them anyway:
-no cut wrists. u don't kill anyone by cutting their wrists.
-more blood. when a throat is cut, the person bleeds to death... most of it went down the drain here...
-the bruises on the other side of the face= can be seen better.
-a small stab wound in the chest
-more blood in the hands. if your throat is cut, you'll try to stop the bleeding, even if it's no use cos you'll die anyway !!
-the bleeding is the right direction. the chest wound has righteously bled downwards as well since it came first, and the blood from the throat is pretty much all over... (umm, u should see the wall)
-a small wound on the forehead.
-a bruise/wound on the knee.
and to those of you who don't know; this doesn't need to be taken seriously. but i hope u feel something. like bad. most of us are so used to seeing dead in the movies that we don't even blink an eye. i want you to remember how violence feels like.
with that said i can add this is not a perfectly reconstructed death scene since it usually looks even so much uglier...in fact, it's ironic how this, and my other work, takes so much influence from the movies
and in the end, besides being in a way serious about this, i did this laughing and i hope u have you're sense of humour as well. so figure this out...
and since ppl often ask: i use fake blood, different kinds of. here:
-paste-like, dark. in the wounds, lip. dries but looks wet.
-liquid, milky. all over hands, floor, nose....
-liquid, almost creamy. (can be put in the) mouth.
geez what a novel.... ok, i hope u like it, i do. the colors are crappy cos a Sony digital camera was used. it was terrible. will never try it again. helping me was ~sininen just like last time.

Wow. This shot freaks me out. I don't know who would want a print of this to hang on their wall though... Oh well. I suppose someone might.

Is this a media ploy for "PUNCH DRUNK LOVE"?
No one should ever drink that much fruit punch.

Its a powerful shot, and well composed.
My question to those who "are worried as to why this shot is getting so much attention" has to ask themselves why they clicked the link as well..
Nice work, and it's a comfort to know that the model is alright

i remember commenting on the original, seems like so long ago.
this one makes my stomach hurt. you have suceeded in creating a rather realistic death scene, at least in my mind
very awesome in terms of effort and technical goodness.
scares the shit out of me though, but that is all right

Very well done Great angle and I think it's awesome how much work you put into making it seem real.

I'm not into graphic pictures usually but this one is well done. however, i think someone made a comment about the eyes, and i agree... you can still tell she is alive. maybe if they were closed, or if she had some kind of dark or glazed over contacts in, she would look more dead. the blood color and splatter looks good, a lot better than in most (non-professional) pictures or films i've seen done. I like the out of focus hand where the nails look messed up a bit but it's hard to tell if they are or not. this isn't an image i'd hang on my wall, but it is well done and it is good death is recognized through this art; even if it is a violent death scene such as this, it is a part of reality.

If you did it in black and white it might have more of an impact because there is something about the red that just doesn't look right. I sat and stared trying to figure out what it is that didn't work and I think its the blood. Also, there needs to be a (larger) puddle of blood forming underneath the laceration. A puddle of blood forms quickly so that is another thing that you might want to add. I really like the idea though!

I'm sorry I can't help but see this and laugh. Yes yes I get the point, before I get flamed, mortality life blood yada yada, it just doesn't look real to me, probably because I know it's not, you still look alive, just in a prone position. Kudos for trying, though.

Looks like something I might do lately. Recently I've been obsessed with trying to capture brutality and pain... don't know why. Anyway, the contrast of the white room with blood staining the floor is tremendous, though white goes with just about anything. I like the angle you shot it at, although it would be more realistic to have her standing up, in the process of slitting her throat, ala Dario Argento's Tenebrae. I watched that on IFC recently, and even though in the MOVIE it turns out to be faked, the actor aptly captures the face grimace of someone slitting their own throat.

Get a life Cleavage. It's a fav cause people are startled by it and it's a perfect example of an artist's expression and a vision of angst.

i think it's sad that one of the top daily favs is a picture like this .. to me it shows what sick minds some people have .. nothing against the artist here .. i can see their valid point of trying to make people feel something .. and it is indeed a quality photo .. but the fact that so many people are attracted to something like this disgusts me
sorry if i offended anyone.

very nice. I find it funny how some people made comments saying you need help though. one suggestion I would make is to have a good deal of the fake blood in your mouth and let it slowly dribble out as you take the shot. It'll have a more freshly-killed look.

Very Nice. But if there was a wound that produced that much blood the cut would be quite wide as well as deep. I love the photo though. Very dramatic.

Very realistic, and unpleasant. I think you've made your point about taking more time to think about death than what flicks across the television screen. We're not used to seeing realistic depictions of violent death in still images...

A photo (a whole series) that forces us to look deep within ourselves and understand how as an individual we deal with the fact of death and the pain and realism it brings. If this photo troubles you perhaps then Jenni has succeeded. For it has made you contemplate a question that most avoid out of fear. The subject of death has produced many a shudder from those who fail to see their own mortality. Your death is coming, it is as sure as the pounding of your very heart. Society has yet to reach a mass understanding of the inevitability of death, and the opportunities death brings about on earth.
Yet, we are still fascinated with the strange ways in which we die; we are curious about the whole affair but not to the point where we are willing to go through with it ourselves. We are still susceptible to death at any moment, despite our wishes and our sentiments of fear.
Look deeper than the surface. Who killed her? Why did they resort to killing? Think of the cold tiles that were momentarily warmed by the flowing of her blood. Look at this violent death and feel … alive.
A thought provoking series!
