APPEARANCE ⟹ Crossandra is a tall-eared, spindly, and long-tailed little gryphus. Taking mostly after their avian half in current looks, they have an angular face and thin body, with short fuzzy, and brownish covering the majority of their being. Cross has smaller eyes and a thick beak. Their tail is slightly more puffy than it was in their youth, and they have more avian-based frontpaws with paw pads and less dexterity than full bird ones would give. They have bundles of whiskers on their brows and at the base of their beak, their chest fluffy with thick feathers and a small v-shaped marking. They have never been seen looking down, not once, and always keep their chin raised. When not tormenting others, they move by carefully coordinated marching to honor their queen’s land.
Their fur and feathers are dark, and while that lends them excellent camouflage in the grasses of Littlelake, they are quite self-conscious that they aren’t bright and pretty enough. Their feathers and fur are variations of beige and brown, vibranced by age. Crossandra's fur is more orderly than their untidy sub-adult pelt, grown into their adulthood plumage. The back of their head and ears are black, and their beak is a blueish color. Their eyes are green, and the dull grey that used to decorate their legs, belly, chest and tail is now more of a cream. Their eyeshadow markings remain.
PERSONALITY ⟹
Crossandra is a selfless avetherian. Very, actually. They might be quite rude, but they will not have a second thought about jumping in front of an arrow to take the hit instead of someone walking past- if they can help it. They might not tend to show it to keep up their public image, but in a split-second decision, their true nature will shine brightly. Loyalty is of utmost value to Cross, and they show it well. They make promises and never break them, return things on the date when they’re asked for, and more importantly, praise the North’s glorious Ex-queen Inula. A friend in Crossandra’s mind is not an easy task to accomplish, but once you have, they’ll be one to the end of their life. After getting clocked in the jaw and spending a night in the rain, Crossandra was left to think. Considering how.. Short life really is for an avetherian, and how some things were just not meant to be trifled with, they suddenly developed into a much more relaxed avus. Not that they stopped being violent– but it took at lot more for them to raise their voice or a talon. While many avus may see it as something that is deserved, friend(s) and family consider it a massive improvement.
Now, they do tend to be a bit competitive. It’s not always to the extent of outright cheating, but they aren’t against making smug remarks to discourage challengers. Then again, if they seem to be losing a race, and a rock /is/ within throwing distance, you might want to watch out. Crossandra is quite the creative type, having an imaginative mind and the talons to carry on these ideas onto papyrus. However, they never seem to do anything.. typical. Rather than paint a masterpiece, they'll paint the late queen and her mate, or perhaps a member of the council, or.. just anything political. Not to say they won't do something else, but politics is all they spend their freetime doodling. Cross is stubborn and when they’re right, they’re right. Granted, they don’t always think they’re in the right when they do things and are willing to accept that, but if they see something as justified or wimpy then they’ll argue for the other side. They believe that if you can’t defend your reputation and opinions then you don’t deserve them.
Crossandra is.. Violent. Not just quick to yell, but they frequently get into physical squabbles with the avus their brother Hura hangs out with because they believe they’re all pathetic. If they get upset about fighting with them, how are they going to protect themselves when harpies and hippus and those CRIMINAL WANDERERS come to kill them and take their cows? Exactly! They need to hone everyone’s skills and beating them into a pulp is the only way they can think of. They are nosey, taking note of little things about their peers like things that startle them and get them angry. They aren’t above asking around for information on someone and definitely won't turn their head if they happen to spot a private discussion, finding themself to be an excellent beak-reader. Narrow-mindedness is something they seem to value- they have never changed their opinion on anything, really, admitting that they’re wrong and simply continuing to think that way. Offering any other way to think of things will result in them telling you to piss off and stop bothering them, and telling them that their views are morally wrong will just earn a shrug. Crossadra might still be young, but their ideals are set in stone.

BACKSTORY ⟹
NESTLING.
Crick. Crack.
Corssandra entered the world only a few moments behind their sibling Cardamine, wailing loudest of the pair and loudest of the clutch. They weren’t asking for their parents- they were /demanding/ their attention. They were pacified by being squished into the nest by their father’s talon, but when Oxalis hatched and stole their care away they began to scream once again. Blind and deaf, they had no way of knowing if their parents were really there or not. When their father, Barberry, finally scooped them up and shushed them gently, they were finally able to settle and fall asleep. Lepironia and Barberry were thankful, because their cry sounded like a dying piglet and was very inconvenient.
As a nestling they didn’t take any more than ten seconds to wiggle their way to their parents’ beaks when they smelled food, and push their unfortunate nestmates away to gobble up every last bit when they tried to offer some to the others. It got to the point where they had to be fed at a completely different time because they would make it so difficult for everyone else. Seems they didn’t change, though, because when their ears flipped up and their eyes opened, their un-gummification seemed to change all but their personality.
FLEDGELING.
When changes far outside of Crossandra’s understanding began to occur, they were placed more and more of their uncle Agarita. They adored him, fascinated by stories of war that would have otherwise terrified a young fledgling as themself, and begging for the backstory on all of his scars. It solidified a firm hatred within them for Hippus and Harpies– How could an avus so evil want to hurt Agar? Their uncle? It never occurred to them(because he never did say) /why/ the enemies were fighting him, just that they were mean and cruel. They took it to heart, and those stories formed the foundation of their massive patriotism.
Crossandra found it easy to make a small, comfortable group of friends, though their brother Hura happened to find the most pathetic and wimpy group to hang out with, ever. They strongly disliked Blackberry and frequently torments him by taking advantage of his fear of foxes, scaring him by pretending to be a wild animal, and getting fox trinkets from the marketplace for them. Agarita never knew it was to harass another fledgling- just that Cross seemed to really, really like foxes. They met Chirp while out fetching groceries with their mother, bonding with her almost immediately and frequently begging their uncle to let them visit her parents’ farm. They got into a very heated argument with Hura one time after he said something under his breath about her, and Cross likes to think that they won. They met Crunch not too long after, taking a bit longer to warm up to him but growing to enjoy his company as well. He may have been very.. Crossandra didn’t think he was that smart, like, at all, but they didn’t let that stand in the way of their friendship. They’d just have to dumb down their words.
Soon, they entered schooling. They didn't really get along with their classmates or teachers, often getting into verbal arguments with them over things that did not matter. Crunch stood by their side unyieldingly, ever when their own family grew tired of their antics. Of course, that was until crunch moved away to some other town. That was when Crossandra understood just how few avus in the town- in the /world/, agreed with them.
SUB-ADULT
Crossandra.. eventually became much less outspoken. Keeping to themselves when not being spoken to,(But never losing their bite) they ended up being quite tolerable. Not going off on random political tangents anymore was the best improvement by far. However, the most striking change has to be then new fondness for the arts and theatrics. Not typical ones though, of course, as they seem to only enjoy scratching out political drawings and never just a tree or an apple with a bite taken out of it. They hoped that, through the arts, they could make everyone understand what they were talking about. Art came easier than words, and it was easier to interpret.
While out on a school field trip they personally witnessed a so-called 'dragon chosen' avetherian try to declare some hooligan as the new monarch. Once they got home they promptly began to draw just what they thought about it and hung it up in the school halls without permission. While their parents were contacted, they considered this miniature protest a success. Soon after they took up a more.. Moderately criminal hobby, though it was defended by the logic that ‘nobody really owns that tree in the middle of the desert’ or ‘it’s our land anyway, and I can paint on it.’ Crossandra developed a signature tag, even, a bow and arrow pointing to the sky beneath whatever art they had drawn on the walls. While they avoided causing deliberate problems, they did still inconvenience others..
Up until their friend gifted them a mask to make their hobby a little easier. Mostly for keeping strange fumes out of their face of course, Crossandra instead used it for keeping themselves anonymous after rolling in the dirt. Which sibling were they? Couldn’t ask, because now they were gone. Statements claiming that Inula and her family were the rightful monarchs of the North. The true dragon-chosen. The councilmember Kauko should have been king, in their reasonable mind. It just made sense– why should some random interloper have a say? It hadn’t been that was for years and many more before Crossandra had hatched, and it shouldn’t have changed now.
They gradually lost the support of friends and family, now apparently being ‘too over-the-top’ and adamant about the wrong thing. They recall Agarita’s silence when they asked for his support during a heated debate. And that was right about when they stopped relying on their family to share their opinions. Especially Hura. He’d never shared their obvious vision anyway.
LEGAL ADULT
Crossandra awoke in the grass, stranded in heavy rain. Their wings ached. Their paint was diluted, on the ground and tipped over. They had a pounding headache. The last thing they remembered from the night before was getting into a heated debate with some fellow who graduated with them. And now they had spent hours on the ground. Crossandra didn’t quite recall what it was all about, but they did know that their family must have been worried sick. Leaving school as an adult just to not return home? They’d left during the afternoon, and now it was night.
Crossandra stood, though a violent thumping on the back of their head told them to stay down and rest. It was a while that Cross was left out there to think about themself in the rain. They huddled beneath a tree so that they weren’t being drenched the whole time, but it was sunrise by the time they felt better. They elected to not tell anyone what exactly had happened, saying that they’d just gone.. Camping. Nevermind the fact that they had no supplies to be going camping, nor anyone to do so with, but they were adamant that they were completely fine.
Despite the awful day that transpired before their birthday, Crossandra still looks upon the world with optimism. With a newfound respect for.. Uh, pretty much everything, they have returned to being a humble painter. Even if they still trot the thin line between crossing boundaries and being thought-provoking.

RELATIONSHIPS ⟹
FAMILIAL
They think their parents are mediocre. Struggling with coppers? Just get a better job. Can’t be that hard, right?
They love all of their siblings, but boy, Hura is annoying. Why won’t he just listen? He just has to follow the rules for a little while in the first place.
Agar is the.. Uncle. He's an uncle. He's actually really lame.
Pen is an intriguing avus, but the golden eye is less so now.
FRIENDSHIPS
Fennel- A hen they've been friends with since the Littlelake children were all fledglings. Only seems to be properly appreciating her now.
Chirp! Thinks of her as their closest friend; though doesn’t like other avus claiming it’s because of her older sister.
ENEMIES
Blackberry. He’s a little coward and he needs to learn that. Why does Cross get dirty looks for teasing him? He /is/ Fox bait!
TRIVIA ⟹
While most avus consider being referred to as one of their animal halves as generally rude, Crossandra seems to be rather neutral about it. The slyness and intelligence of foxes is something they admire, and Birds of Paradise are beautiful.
Just as the Greater Bird of Paradise is rumored to never touch the ground, Crossandra is rumored to never look down or lower their head unless they just /have/ to. Along with that, they have a very high ego.
Cross got into an argument about politics again and got decked so hard they were almost out for two hours, yeah. They weren’t actually but that’s about all Cross is confident of.
