"Erin was just a normal shunting engine back when she worked at Wath yard in Yorkshire in the 1930s. She was approached by some other engines who wanted to be her friends and she accepted, not knowing what was coming next. They were nice to her for a while but one day that all changed."

"What did they do?" Melissa asked, worriedly.

"They pulled the rails out from underneath her and humiliated her. They caused an accident in the yard, then pinned the blame on her to make her look clumsy." Caleb answered, severely. "And when I say that incident destroyed her, it destroyed her. She never wanted to be friends with anyone out of fear of that happening again, and even today she still avoids most engines-even me a lot of the time. It's a miracle she opened up to me about it not long after she came to the island."
