“There was no trace left of her, only her scarf.”
Six cats. Six. All missing in this short time. First it was Alchemy and the cubs that joined her, then Nadav. The clouded leopard hybrid was attacked violently as well as the blacksmith apprentice Liven. Fortunately the asian golden cat was able to escape, but not without terrible wounds and a foggy recollection of what happened.
later the new cub Nehandra disappeared without so much as a trace, only her scent tinged with the smell of the unknown left in her place. Now the young cub Blessing was gone as well. The last reported sighting of her was in the morning, as she played with the other cubs. Next thing Rafael knew, a panicked Aelius alerted he and Tacitus of his daughter’s disappearance and presented them with the scarf she wore proudly on her neck.
Rafael stared onward curiously, he’d traveled to where the scarf was found and there sat the black smith apprentice. Her eyes clouded with something Rafael couldn’t read. Almost as if she was lost in thought. “Liven? What are you doing here?”
She looked startled at the sudden entrance of the shadow silver before she calmed and explained. “It’s the same.”
“The same? What’s the same?”
“It’s the same scent...The same scent of the cats that attacked Nadav and I.”
Then hit him. She was right, the same night she was attacked she reeked of this scent and- Rafael’s stomach dropped. Liven was right! It was the same scent left behind on Alchemy’s earring.
