Design for Art History Project.The assignment was to create a design based off of a figure represented in ancient art. I chose Athena, the Greek Goddess of wisdom (and war).
The base dress is a modern take on a greek toga. Pleated, with an empire waist embroidered with gold. This represents Athena's grace and feminine beauty.
The leather corset represents strength and sturdiness. Although Athena was a woman, she was also a strong warrior. The corset comes down to a point and ties at either side.
The owl feathers on her sleeves stand for what she herself stands for, wisdom. I think they add just the right touch to give the upper part of the dress some character.
Her shoes are of course gladiator sandals, they tie all the way up to mid-shin level.
