Shapur I: son of Ardashir I, founder of the Sassanid dynasty of Persia.Shapur I was the second Shahanshah (king of kings) of the Sassanid emire, and under him the empire experienced many victories over the Romans. Most notable of these triumphs was the defeat and subsequent capture of Emperor Valerian at the battle of Edessa.
