Description

After finishing the Tarot card cinemagraphs I thought about doing something with playing cards.

Not more cinemagraphs, since they take a lot of work, but I figured it wouldn't be too hard to trace over them with some sort of theme in mind.

I eventually decided to do Batman.

Bruce "I work alone" Wayne has plenty of allies I could use. I just needed to narrow them down to 9 (8 minus batman) with at least 4 of them being female for the queens.

Batman, Batgirl and all the people who had been Batgirl, Robin and all the the people who had been Robin, future Robin, future Batman, even affiliated vigilantes in Gotham like the Birds of Prey.

I eventually decided to take inspiration from the webcomic Wayne Family Adventures and just use characters from there

I decided that since the Ace of spades was the fanciest non face card in the deck, Batman had to be that suit.

Since the original trio was Bruce Wayne, Barbra Gordan and Dick Grayson I decided to put them together.

I then decided since both Red Hood and Red Robin had the word "Red" in their name they obviously had to be together. I picked Batwoman as their Queen since her predominant colour is also red.

I decided they should be hearts because I found out that the King of Hearts is sometimes known as the suicide king because of the sword behind his head. As the Robin most famous for dying it seemed to fit for Jason.

Since I had Tim already sorted I couldn't put him with Seph so I put her with Cass and Damian. Since Oracle didn't really have a costume I had her as Batgirl and didn't want to repeat myself so I had them as Spoiler and Orphan.

That left Signal to be with Batwing and Bluebird. I picked their suit as diamonds solely because the Jack of Diamonds is holding something that looks kind of like Duke's weapon. So that left clubs for the others.

I was not about to make all the number cards so I just did a 4 of everything card to give an example of who they would look like.

I even did the back of the cards.

All the base references for the cards were from the basic bicycle set of playing cards.

The font was just something I found googling for Gothic fonts.
