Beautiful.

It’s a word that I’ve heard often.

A word that I have said often.

Beautiful.

That word just seems special,

Sounds special,

Looks special.

The definition is quite special as well.

In short, it means that someone or something,

Possess qualities of pleasure.

To see.

To hear.

To think about.

Delightful to the senses and the mind.

A special word.

It’s a word that every girl hopes is said to her,

By her friends,

By a stranger,

By her family,

By her lover.

It makes her feel special,

Makes her feel loved.

But what if there is a girl who has heard the word,

Has said it,

But has never had it directed towards her?

Instead, she hears the word pretty.

Pretty.

Doesn’t hold the same ring.

Almost sounds like something you’d say to someone,

Or something,

Because they or it isn’t special enough to be labeled with the word,

Beautiful.

The definition isn’t special either.

It simply means,

Pleasing to the eye,

To the ear,

To the mind.

Pleasing without the grandeur.

Not so special.

Not so wonderful.

Not a word that a girl dreams about.

Pretty.

Beautiful.

Cute.

Stunning.

Fine.

Radiant.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter,

The words don’t always matter.

But there are times,

When everyone around you is called beautiful,

And they all call each other beautiful,

Looping their arms together and smiling and laughing,

And sometimes don’t even say a word to you,

And other times say that you are pretty.

Its then that the word,

Pretty,

Is like a dagger.

A sharp, double-edged blade straight into the heart.

You look in the mirror and say,

I am beautiful.

I am beautiful.

I am beautiful.

But it doesn’t hold the same ring,

And eventually it fades into nonsense.

I am beautiful.

I am beautiful?

I am…pretty.

I am pretty?

I am…me…?
