Just looking at it, I can feel the chill from the wind. Simply Amazing!

There's even more to it, now that I look at it closer. The boy is dressed in a scarf and gloves, and his footprints are visible in the foreground. I think the bird was injured, and the boy nursed it back to health. But in the process, he came to love the bird, and wanted to keep him. The bird wants to fly south for the winter, and the boy is able to look beyond his own needs and put the needs of the bird first. He hopes the bird will come back in springtime, but I don't think he really expects it to.

What I love about it is that it tells a very compelling story without beating the viewer over the head with it. This could easily be a page out of some Caldecott Medal winner!
