I had Life and Death as concepts for a school assignment

After thinking about it a lot, I thought a good contrast/theme for both would be a type of music, and that led the rest of their design process.

Since Life and Death are both equally intimate and callous, human and inhuman, I thought that they should both not have visible eyes, and should appear as not completely human/mortal.

Psi (Psilocybin- a type of hallucinogenic mushroom (also mushrooms sort of bring things back to life by absorbing the energy in dead things)), is a reflection of things like the Hippie movement, psychedelic visuals and music, and an appreciation for life as a whole. Very loose clothing, round glasses and a lack of shoes is reminiscent of things like Woodstock- Life is short, enjoy it while it lasts type of vibe. His hair and robe are covered in disorienting, eyebleed patterns because life is much more complicated than we mortals can comprehend. He has a guitar, but it's a little small to symbolize the potential joy but inherent absurdity in life.

Irae (Dies Irae/"Day of Wrath"- a phrase in music that has come to represent death). While Irae also has a sort of 'Death is inevitable' type of vibe, I thought she would be celebratory more because of that inevitability than in spite of it (like Psi). Embracing death, she is able to rock out and enjoy the music, because life is indeed short. Her heavy boots and chains are reminiscent of her authority and calling, and her corpse paint is literally paint on a corpse. She has a skull and wings on her t-shirt as a call-back to the grim reaper. She plays bass, because even though death is in the background most of the time, it's always there.
