Description
I made a moth! Resin body, fur, wire, all that jazz. More photos here: taniakerins.tumblr.com/post/82…I'm hoping to make some for sale in future. This is only a prototype and those for sale will have some parts made by a factory (as I'm relying way too much on glue here). Eventually they will glow in the dark with a nice white glow as opposed to the usual green. As of such I had dubbed them 'Luna moths', though I'm not too fond of the name and am considering branching out towards other species as well. Just that making it glow in the dark gave the object more of a purpose than starting off with some that didn't and would sit there just being pretty.
It would be good to know if you'd be interested in buying a moth in future (for around £100) as I need to know whether involving a factory is worth it.

If I had the money to drop I would. Handmade I'd definitely agree 100$ is reasonable, but if a factory is ever involved I'd think a bit lower price.
Also yeah the size scale link is not working.

Yeah, I expect the price will go down if it gets factory made. I'd rather set an upper budget instead of supposing a lower one and then raising it though.
Here's a different link. I'll change the one in the description :)

You can really tell you spent a lot of time and effort on this, 100 seems a very reasonable price for a handmade version of this. Depending on what you were going to have factory made (how much time you end up saving in the build process) would effect the selling price from there.

definitely. I've set £100 as an upper budget because I'd rather do that and excite people when it's cheaper afterwards, than assuming a lower factory price and ending up having to dissapoint people by raising it if I need to xD

Especially with how big it is, too. You've got the right idea.
It's very beautifully made btw! I can't wait to see where this goes.

I love moths! I thought that was real one good job.
But yeah, it is expensive. Did it really take that much money to make it?

unfortunately yes. It's taken several hours to make, and this is without the material costs included. It's only rough, but I can see it headding towards £100 easily. However I expect it to end up being cheaper if I can get parts made en-mass by factory

Moths are great! I find it unfortunate that some people are scared of them. Personally I think they're adorable.

The moth's body is pretty well-done, I like the legs and abdomen. Are you going to put paint on the wings? If they are the glowing parts of the moth, you could make some interesting effects by that.

I haddn't considered designs on the wings through glowing powder actually. That could be interesting. At the moment it's flocked perspex, but I'm hoping to find a more realistic material by the time I get it factory made (if I do) because as you can see.. there's quite a contrast between the realism of the wings and that of the body..

Thankyou! It would hopefully get cheaper if factory made. (some processes like making the wire legs takes ages.. a factory could make them much faster. So the cost of labour is reduced. I have no idea how much I'd have to pay them though >_> )
