The Responder-class light patrol frigate is a low-cost civilian-grade combat ship based on the Retriever-class light salvage ship.

The ship was designed to make use of a number of decommissioned Retriever-class hulls and finalized after the UFSN, the last major user of the class, decided to replace their small fleet of the old salvage ships with newer ships. In essence the Responder-class is little than an up-armored and heavily armed Retriever-class hull equipped with modified Whitestone-class engine pods.

The Responder-class might be classified as a frigate and has comparable firepower to a Union Navy light frigate but can't compete with an actual warship on equal footing, mainly because of it's lackluster protection and underpowered reactors. The ship was approved by the UFSN as an auxiliary combat ship tho and sees very limited service as a patrol ship with a handful of small local governments at the outskirts of Union controlled space.
