The Beacon I-class asteroid outpost is a small, cheap and simple military outpost, designed to support small naval operations during the initial expansion phase of the UFS.

Technically the Beacon-pattern stations encompass a series of simple prefabricated buildings and modules that can be affixed to almost any small- to medium-sized asteroid. These modules range from residential structures and warehouses to various-sized turret emplacements. The Beacon I-class is only lightly armed with a series of civilian-grade defensive turrets and point-defense weapons. The station can operate with a very small crew and store a limited quantity of torpedoes and other heavy ordnance.

During the aforementioned early expansion of the Union of Free Systems many Beacon-pattern stations were constructed as operations bases for the defense of mining operations and low-level system defense efforts.
