An updated variant of the M5 Basic Service Pistol. It features M4 Mk.2 enhanced slide serrations, a modified grip frame, an integrated laser sight and an enlarged push-button slide lock/release. Further upgrades include a M6 Action style modular grip fame and numerous internal changes that make the pistol even more rugged and easy to maintain. The 8.5x38mm CT cartridge can carry significant amounts of payload and is fast enough to allow kinetic armor-piercing rounds to defeat light military body armor.
The M5 series features the rather unique COF push-button slide lock/release introduced with the M4 pistols.
The M5 ESP was developed for parts of the Union of Free Systems military who did not want to adopt particle burst handguns as sidearms but wanted to replace the relatively cumbersome M5 BSP with a slightly more streamlined handgun.
The M5 ESP pictured here is setup in its basic configuration.
Because of the 8.5x38mm CT cartridge the grip is quite large for a combat pistol making it potentially uncomfortable to shoot for people with smaller hands, especially considering the power of the cartridge.
