I think dead cats are perfect portrayal of fragility and death. maybe that is why they have chosen the cat to be both a powerful goddess and a powerful symbol for death in ancient aegypt ?

This is an extremely powerful image, my friend. The lightning? The setup? The color scheme?
Powerful especially for me, after having discovered my dogs ravaging a litter of
kittens a stray cat had birthed under my back porch and... you know, having to pick each one up and bury it.
I can't remember ever having a more terrible experience than that... Maybe I'll go out back and visit their grave today.

Look for the 10th anniversary issue; it'll be in there most likely.
The story centered around an injured and dying raccoon Calvin comes across in the park one day. During the story all the character's are further established, including Calvin's mother. Amazing as that is, considering her essential role is to be a moral foil/antagonist to Calvin.
It's an especially great panel when Calvin tells Hobbes 'not to leave him any time soon', and Hobbes comforts him in bed. It really did expand that strip's poignancy. Honestly, I wish more newspaper cartoonists had Watterson's balls about the efficacy of comics as relevant literature.

Ooh, thanks! And, yeah I have to agree. Watterson really makes the comics a worth while read with a lot more depth than many others. He treats his comics as real stories, and not just something that you're going to read over once, and never look at again. That's why I like his work (:
