the shadows have great value, but perhaps adding a darker shade of grey under the chin to give it a little more depth would work?

Well I have to say that this is a well executed Self Portrait.
I like how your eyes, nose and mouth are the center focus and your eye leads out from there. Making yourself a brighter contrast from the background just makes everything else pop, which I think is just lovely. :>
