So I've had an obsession with properly drawn wings for ages. I love animals, and the idea of humans with wings is fascinating. But the more experienced I get, the more I realize how anatomically incorrect many wings are. Improper placement, feathers, and number of joints not only make drawings look unrealistic, but irk me in ways only things I'm obsessed with can. This is my latest and greatest study on all things human wings, after hundreds of doodles, several finished sketches, and this derpish design [link] a few months ago. I know not all of it is perfect: keeping in mind this is a fictional concept, I'd love to hear your thoughts if you think it needs improvement, or want more explanation.

They would need ligaments connecting them to the upper body to have any hope of balance. And then there's the issue of how the joints would fit in...

Maybe you should bring that up in a bat winged tutorial? since bat wings are more flexible? (is reminded of the Anime Gargoyles when they wrapped there wings around them)

Finally, a tutorial of human wings that shows the human wearing those wings is going to look fairly out of proportion when it comes to human anatomy, and therefore, stick out like a sore thumb >8C. Daaaaanke. XD

Right?? I looked up wing tutorials months ago, and only found one or two that were any good. So many sparkly, fluffy feathers... I'm glad someone shares my (totally not fanatical) opinion on wings and proportions.

I must admit, I've never come across anyone using 'ass wings.' That's funny. And, if that were the case, wouldn't her head be down and her feet in the air? Dynamics and weight. (smile) Makes for a funny cartoon.

I could not agree with you more. Specially at the end of the tut with the "ass wings" It is nice to know I am not the only one with an urk in seeing badly proportioned wings. I hope your tutorial helps others out

Yeah Harley in the cartoons was my favorite more than any other. I liked her in the older series more, as she was semi air-headed and added humour to the show. Tormenting poor "Mister J."
