Cold in itself is an emotion, we use it to describe ourselves or others when we or they are feeling less than enamorous towards the rest of the human race. Or when we or they are unable to communicate love towards one another. It is represented here by the lack of warmth, or life mainly through the colors used along with the subject matter. The tree itself, either dead or dormant, shows no response towards the cold, and it's lack of leaves represents it's own lack of visual life. The darkness of the sun, shows that in winter, even though it may shine, it's inability to sustain life associates it with the darker side of existence, mainly death, which has always been considered dark in nature. The diffusion used is to represent a two dimentional, rather than three, side to the picture, giving it a feeling of being dead, unable to experience life on this plane no longer. Yet out of the darkness emerges a three dimentional character, still cold, but emitting small charges of light, showing that even in the coldest conditions, the ever present seeds of growth and expection continue to exist, providing their own warmth through their birth, and promising a brighter tomorrow.
