Human (FreeRanger) male Lvl 9 Fighter-Assassin

    Captain Harlan Hemlock was known in many ports for his good looks, good fortune, and skill with the ladies. He also gained some measure of fame for the journeys he completed. He was one of the few to make the crossing from Calimshan in Kibberan, across the Avandorian Sea, the Golden Ocean, south around Sancrist, and across the Taipai Sea to Taipai and the west coast of Beotharn,… not once, but eight times. What is not known about him, by any but a select few, is that his name also appears on the register of the SGS Shadow Siren. And only those few know that there is no such ship sailing the oceans of Arrallon. When such a thing occurs, that crew list is a tally of one of the secret organizations within the Shipping Guild. Those secret groups are made up of enforcers, inquisitors, elite warriors and assassins.

    Unlike the Hashishin of the ancient Symballan Empire, the modern assassins of the Shipping Guild and the assorted syndicates of the new world do not make public spectacles of their missions. Where the ancient way was to instill fear and terror in the people with a very public death of a prominent person, usually a religious or political leader; the Shipping Guild’s assassins were trained to use stealth, subterfuge, and deniability in taking out their targets. If a corrupt politician could simply die of a stroke at home alone, that was just as well. There should never be anything that might lead back to the Guild or its clients. The SGS Shadow Siren was just such an organization, and Captain Hemlock used his world travels and his womanizing swashbuckler image to draw attention away from what he did in secret, kill the enemies of the Shipping Guild leadership.

    Of course, all that womanizing invariably left behind a string of pregnant whores, rich merchant’s wives and daughters, and the occasional priestess. Only two of those eventually found their way back to Harlan, a boy conceived with a fellow guild assassin, and a girl he had by a seductive Hermaphrodite priestess. The boy was the first and the one he knew about from the get-go. Marleisa Cambridge was not exactly Harlan’s equal in battle, but what she lacked in fighting skill, she made up for with seductive talent and a thieves’ stealth. As a Carellonian member of the Shadow Siren, she was not interested in settling down permanently to raise a son to maturity. So, when Douglas turned six, he was summarily turned over to his father, and Marleisa went back to her job. Needless to say, Douglas Hemlock wasn’t exactly raised with the best parents or role models. The only thing he really had that stuck with him through thick and thin over the years was a half-sister who was no lady.

    Douglas Hemlock was raised amongst both Sonntaglians and Carellonians, buccaneer crews of various ships he served on for many years. When he was big enough, his father had him and his sister inducted into the SGS Shadow Siren crew, moved to Wyreport and trained in special assassination and fighting techniques. But when his sister showed a predilection for magic, she was shipped off to one of the magic universities up north and he continued on in the trenches, sailing around the world three times on various special missions for the Shadow Siren. The two weren’t reunited until her graduation, when they became an inseparable assassination team.

    Douglas normally goes by his code name of Agust when on a mission. He is highly trained in the thieves’ martial arts style, Quai Chungi, and lacking any magic of his own, numerous ki abilities as well. He is most proficient in fighting with swords and firearms, applying his unique martial talents to his use of pistols as well. More than just a brutish killer, he has a way with the ladies, not that any of them ever come back for seconds, given his tendency to be a little rough in the sack,… if he doesn’t just rape them in a back alley somewhere. The only real love of his life is his half-sister,… and the toys that she often has hanging around.
