This one's been sitting on my drafting table for months. I finally tossed the pencils over onto my iPad and gave it a colour treatment.

From one of my work-in-progress novels, although this scene is from before the start of the actual book itself: Herrat Hyanten getting his adopted daughter, Elliot, interested in his work as Alpha Base's Communications Officer. It's been a pointless job for almost a century: there are no signals from outside the base; they're cut off from the rest of the universe and have been for ages.

Still, it's the epitome of hope. Someday, somehow, there might be someone out there to hear and maybe to call to for help.
