Chapter One'I'm bored...'
On the branch of a large evergreen heavily blanketed with snow, lay Jack Frost. After a long day of mischief, he was tired, but still felt like doing... Something.
"There isn't much left to do today." He sighed.
Suddenly a shrill cry pierced the air, making him bolt up and smack his head on the branch above him.
"What was THAT??"
---
Kiriia cowered in the dark. The door had slammed into her backside and threw her into the room. She heard the lock click into place.
Strangely enough, she could still see herself as if she was in daylight, but could see nothing else around her.
"W-what's going on..." She whimpered softly.
A cold voice laughed softly at her.
"What do you fear most, Kiriia?"
Kiriia froze, her heart jumping into her throat.
"I...don't..." she tried to answer feebly.
"Yes you do... and so do I." The voice chuckled.
Kiriia stared at her lap in fear, then shrieked again.
Her hands were fading away.
"You're afraid of disappearing... Isn't that right?"
---
Jack, ignoring his headache, tried to find the source of the scream. When he heard it again, he found it to be coming from the old house at the end of the street.
"Creepy..."
Climbing out on a branch of an old oak near one of the windows, he craned his neck to see inside. To his confusion and dismay, he saw nothing but black.
"Well that's weird."
He tried to open the window, but it was locked from the inside.
---
"N-no...no..."
Kiriia watched in horror as her arms faded to the elbow, and legs to the knee.
The mysterious voice cackled coldly at her.
Tears started to form at the corners of her eyes, and she curled up in submission.
For a moment, she was still...
She lifted her head suddenly, her golden eye glowing, and she screeched,
"NOOOO!!!"
A ring of golden light burst from her being, shattering the window and piercing the darkness. Light started to filter into the room as the darkness fizzled away, seeping through the cracks in the floor and walls.
Outside, Jack was nearly thrown of the branch, barely saving himself with the hooked end of his staff.
Scrambling back up to the window, he saw a young girl doubled over on the floor.
"Did YOU do that!?" He asked through the window.
She slowly looked at him, eyes still wide in shock.
"I... I don't know..."
He cautiously climbed through the window, sitting down on the bed.
"Who are you...?" She asked softly, starting to calm down.
He scoffed. "Me? I'm Jack Frost!"
She looked at him incredulously. "You're kidding...right?"
"Nope."
"I don't believe in myths like that..."
"Well apparently you believe in me, else you wouldn't be able to see me."
Kiriia rubbed her arms. "It's cold."
"Winter usually is. So... what exactly happened here?"
"I don't really know... It was like something from a nightmare."
Jack stiffened. "What did you just say?"
She looked at him, confused. "It was like something... From a nightmare."
He stared at the wall. "That's...not possible..." He whispered.
"What's not possible?"
"Huh?"
"What's going on?"
Jack bit his lip. 'How do I explain this when I don't even have a clue??'
"I don't actually know... But I hope it isn't what I'm thinking it is."
"...what?"
A shadow crossed over his face. "Do you believe in the Boogeyman?"
---
Okay! So there's CH 1. I hope you like :3 I know Jack is a tiny bit out of character... But I'm trying to keep him as in-character as possible. Note the occasional wise-crack here and there. XP ... CH 2 should be up soon. Till then, stay cool my friends.
