Description Chapter Three

Deep within the darkness, Pitch remained, chained down to his own lair. He growled and mumbled to himself, promising himself sweet revenge.
Then, there was a fizzling sound above him. Pitch slowly looked up, seeing a pale young by with shaggy black hair and wearing a leather jacket. He smirked down at pitch, toying with a string coming from his torn grey jeans.
"And who...are you?" Pitch drawled.
The boy chuckled, flipping his bangs away from his bright yellow eyes.
"Hi... Dad."

Back to Kiriia and Jack. After the puppy incident and plenty of teasing on Jack's part, the pair set off again. They've been flying through the forest for quite a while, and have finally stopped for the night.
Jack quietly landed and set Kiriia down, looking around to make sure all was safe.
"Jack, where are we?"
"Shh, keep your voice down. We're about 30 miles from the town where you live."
"Jack, I don't understand any of this..."
Jack turned and looked at Kiriia. She was leaning against a tree, looking down in worry. Jack sighed, running his fingers through his stark white hair.
"A long time ago... People weren't believing in me anymore..."
Kiriia looked at him, confused.
"If someone doesn't believe in a Guardian, they can't see them." He explained.
"Wait, a 'Guardian'?"
Jack mentally kicked himself. 'Well, that explanation just went in circles.'
"Look, all of the mythical figures that you were told about as a child... Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny... Me, we're all Guardians."
"Guardians of what?"
"Well we both represent something, and are the guardians of...well... simply put, children's hopes and dreams."
"What do you represent?"
"...Fun."
"You have got to be kidding me."
"Eh... No, but that's not my point. A long time ago, the Boogeyman... Pitch Black is his real name, he tried to destroy the Guardians. You see, our power comes from the children of Earth's belief in us."
"So what happened in the old house..."
"I think Pitch might have returned, as impossible as that is. By the way.. what were you doing in that place? Isn't it haunted?"
Kiriia gulped and toyed with her hair.
"I sleep there."
Jack did a double-take. "You... SLEEP there??"
"...My family doesn't understand either. and no, it's not haunted. Just old and covered with cobwebs."
Jack leaned on his staff. "...You know you can't go back."
"Then I'll find a new place to sleep away from home."
"No..."
Jack scratched the back of his head, making a 'the truth is...' face.
"You can't go back to that town... Ever."
"What...?"
"It's too dangerous. You're obviously being targeted, and the only thing we can do now is run."
"But I don't want to leave them..."
"I'm sorry... But it's the only way. I can't promise your family will be--"
"I don't care about my family!!"
Jack stared at her wide-eyed. "Wha..."
"The stars." she pointed up at the sky, where no stars were shining.
"I sing to them from that place. They won't know where to look if I'm not there."
Jack blinked a couple times, a small smile touching his lips. "They'll still hear you though."
Kiriia took a deep, shaky breath. "Don't watch me, please."
Jack shrugged, floating up into a tree nearby. Kiriia found a rather large tree root to curl up on, pulling her scarf over her face.
Jack, from where he was perched, he could still see her, but knew she couldn't see him. He watched as she sat herself comfortably against the tree, taking a few breaths of the cold night air. She slowly looked up at the sky, what little light there was making her one golden eye glow. Her lips parted, and a slow melodic tune came on one syllable. Jack sat up a little at the tune faded a bit, and she breathed in deeply. Next came the words...:
"Sweet little words made for silence not talk

Young heart for love not heartache

Dark hair for catching the wind

Not to veil the sight of a cold world

Kiss... while your lips are still red

While he's still silent

Rest while bosom is still untouched, unveiled

Hold another hand while the hand's still without a tool

Drown into eyes while they're still blind

Run while the night still hides the withering dawn..."

Jack sat up even more, staring at her in awe. From above, a few tiny stars pierced the darkness.

"First day of love never comes back

A passionate hour's never a wasted one

The violin, the poet's pen

Every thawing heart plays your theme with care..."
She continued to sing through the night, stars shining brightly again one by one. Jack could not help but stay up till dawn, hearing her voice playing over and over through his head, even after she had fallen asleep.
"Wow... Who knew she could sing..." Jack lay still on the branch, arms folded under his head. He had watched the sky turn lighter and lighter as the dawn approached. He blinked, then scoffed at himself. "No way man, don't go there."
