Description I love the Zodiac.  It's fun.  But there are so many other constellations that should get some attention.  I had the idea, what if there was a dark zodiac?  And I don't mean just the constellation that is the opposite your sun sign.  I thought, what about a ring of constellations that runs vertically to the zodiac, one that goes through the North and South pole stars.  On the heels of that was to start this new vertical zodiac with Ophiuchus, the constellation that astronomers say should be part of the 12 original but was rejected by the community at large.  Of course, I had to have some fun with it, since many of the Southern hemisphere constellations have no mythological connections.  So if I was add some other meaning to some, why not all?  And why not play with their designs?  And why not make them spooky looking?

Here I present The Serpent Bearer.  Originally Ophiuchus, a man wrestling a giant serpent, was associated with many other mythical figures, including Apollo struggling with a huge snake, the serpent god Nirah who had snakes for legs, and even a healer named Asciepius.  He was usually described as a giant trampling the great scorpion (Scorpio).  It is a sign representing struggle, strength against poisons, and overcoming great adversity.

Taking that into account, my new Serpent Bearer is obviously in homage to Medusa.  She was one of the first of the new designs I wanted to do, not only because I adore her story, but who else could you pick as a dark version of a serpent wrangler?
