During the invasion of Draconis, the Balduwinian Empire used its knowledge of gunpowder to its advantage. This advantage also proved itself to be a double-edged sword, however, as the conquistadors' muskets needed a significant amount of time to reload. One remedy to this issue was to deploy musketeers in teams of at least two so that one soldier could reload as the other fired his own musket.

The most common pattern of musket used by the conquistadors is the Tierra Pattern. This pattern uses an improved flintlock mechanism and rarely misfires. The Tierra's reliability is so well known that several hundred have actually been stolen and used against their creators.
