The reason for my question is because I came up with this idea for a book with a friend and I had this water chick and he had his fire dude. And even though we mutually hate each other I realized I'd so ship our characters. So I needed an answer!

Personally, I love Mako. He's a character full of depth and flaws which makes him wonderfully human. He makes mistakes, you know, and he says the wrong things sometimes, but I think that's what makes him and the show so amazing. Is having characters like Mako be human and relatable. So I don't get why people hate him. Because he's human? It's sad :/ I think he and Korra are amazing together too!
