Both were on opposite sides of the first war for Earth, Dumortierite was a servant class that likes order. Carnelian was a class of strange gems that hold positions based on their talents, this on was high-up and only a few ranks under the diamonds themselves, smart, focused, strict on themselves. But they abandoned it all for the cause of morale.
Both feel very deeply, and Dumorierite was pitted against Carnelian at one point. They expected to be wiped out instantly and collapsed, begging not to be shattered. Carnelian hesitated, and offered them to come to the side of good. They did, and went into hiding until they decided for themselves what they were to do. During this time they became attached to Carnelian, learning about their own freedoms and abilites, while also helping Carnelian to rely on their own decisions and not just those of the people relying on them.
While not a perfect fusion, Bluebird was a labor of love that they indulged in quite often, though both valued their individuality. Dumortierite was shattered late in the war, and Carnelian in the final battle. Their parts are lost in the berry field, along with Bluebird’s Pata
