my first daily deviant and it also got me 100 dollars by getting second place in the Create a Feeling 2 contest...gooood times
and cause it seems to be frequently called out...yes the rope looks fake...i cooould have picked a better rope...but it wasn't photoshopped in! it was hanging from a stick that was sitting across 2 chairs...and the wind...OOOOOH the wind was relentless that day...took me forever to get the damn king to stop swinging hahaha

Although the seriousness of this piece, i find it amusing and comical, not only is the idea behind it very brilliant, the picture itself says more than words could explain. very nice piece.

The rope seems to contrast with the ethereal look of the other objects in the piece, but the concept is great

i like how the chess peices represent the people at an execution. it looks really good. the colors too.

Oh my. This is incredibly set up... The positioning of the pieces immediately catches the eye, not only pointing towards that empty space, where the king was cornered (literally) and thusly removed, hung, executed... but they also frame the action, and create a nice space and shape there.
With the chessboard extending out beyond the edges of the image helps give the feeling of a closeup, draw one into the action more.
I really like the way you arranged the pieces themselves, as well. The pawns on the outside, and the larger pieces in order, symmetrically surrounding the King and Queen with the offending queen. Interesting to include that queen, as well, and not having the hung king the only frosted piece. I'm not sure what that makes me feel, that alone, I mean. There are so many ways one could take that, and that ambiguity is something I appreciate, so I think I won't over-analyze it.
The noose really stands out, I think it could stand to be slightly less shiny or "clean" looking, with the harsh look of the rest of the piece (not that smooth glass pieces can really be harsh, but there's a certain feeling to the chessboard and pieces that isn't shared by the noose, though that could just as easily be intentional...).
Either way, having the king suspended thusly is intriguing, and the pieces as they are seem to be watching him as he hangs. Fascinating.
One last interesting part is how the frosted queen's reflection is showing in the space her king has vacated...

hahaha i know what you mean about the noose...the rope in general really bothers me in this picture but i didnt have anything else that wouldnt look to much more bulky around the king and i'm too lazy to reshoot

If you don't think it's worthy, message the one who featured it, not the artist. The artist did not ask for this feature, and had no part in the process of picking it. All you just did was insult the artist on a work of theirs that many thought worthy to get a few more glances.

I love this, the symbolism is amazing and the emotion it provokes is one thats almost impossible to describe.
Was the king corrupt? Was this part of an invasion?
