Description

The problems Mandy encountered while staying with her in-laws unfortunately didn't end with the smoking incident. No, after that occurred the Colonel and his wife decided that they needed to watch their daughter-in-law much more closely than before, so if anything her tenuous hold on her freedom and adulthood became even more strained. Whereas before the Smiths were strict, but were careful to treat Mandy with the deference a guest of her age should receive, now because of her terrible behavior they seemed to view her as being not quite an adult. Because of this they began to treat her in a manner which would normally be reserved for a child with whose welfare they had been entrusted.

For instance they now not only expected her to be careful when going out after dark, now they gave her an actual curfew and expected her to obey it. After eight o'clock or after dark, whichever came first, she was not to leave the house unless it was an emergency. If she absolutely had to go out, she was to ask them to escort her whenever she needed to go. Initially she was also expected to call the Colonel 'Sir' and June "Ma'am", but when she referred to a waiter at a restaurant as 'dude', they decided that she should use these forms of address whenever speaking to an adult.

As exceedingly humiliating as these rules were they weren't nearly as horrendous as her new dress code. Her mother-in-law in particular thought Mandy dressed like either a harlot or a tomboy and announced that while she lived with them, she would dress like a proper young lady. To Mandy's horror this was revealed to mean that she would be wearing dresses meant for a girl half her age from then on.

It was this new dress code which in fact led to her ultimate undoing just a few days later. Having been dressed in a childish party frock and equally juvenile shoes and socks for a family reunion picnic, Mandy looked at herself in the mirror and pulled an angry face. The pigtails June had put her hair in were the final straw and with a stomp of her foot she declared that she had finally had enough. She then marched over to her mother-in-law and told her that she absolutely, under no circumstance would ever be seen in public dressed like this. She was a grown woman, a college graduate even, not some simpering little girl!

Calmly June tried to reason with Mandy. She told her how cute she looked. She even attempted to make her accept that though it seemed like a punishment, that they were really doing her a favor. She was an irresponsible child at heart. Didn't she agree that a person should dress appropriately for the role they filled? Wasn't it easier to just accept that she wasn't quite as mature as she wanted everyone else to believe? Mandy remained stubborn however. She told her mother-in-law that no matter what mistakes she might have made, they couldn't treat her like this and in the mood she was now in she certainly wasn't going to any damn picnic.

At this point the Colonel came in. He was greatly displeased with what he had heard. Rather than argue with or attempt to reason with her as his wife had done though, he simply walked over to Mandy, took her by the hand and pulled her down over his lap. At first she was in disbelief. Was her fiance's father really going to do what she thought her was? It didn't seem possible. Could she have really sunk so low in his estimation that she needed to be disciplined like a naughty, misbehaving child? Surely not she thought. Then the spanking began and any illusions Mandy still had at being anything in her father-in-law's eyes other than a disobedient brat vanished. Halfway through her punishment she called out for her husband to come and save her, but by the time the Colonel judged that her bottom was red enough, she cried out that she had learned her lesson and would be a good girl.
