"I make martyrs out of mere men. Too bad they never appreciate it. " - attributed to Torturer.So here it is, my new fully rendered warhams piece done in my fav pallette.
Started out as a quick sketch, but I couldn't leave it like that and worked up towards a completed work.
Torturer's freeing the demon inside 's Chaplain Moerchen via low-level psykering and transforming the latter into a Possesed Marine. Read it in 's fic here - [link]
Need to say, Gary "Torturer" Stu is incredibly fun to draw despite his complex armor and design. I think it's my best Marine character up to date.
Moerchen's design is based on Sonja's quick sketch, so I expanded on it - was cool to draw something organically-toothy for a change of all the metal.
And of course, fanservice - have your guro-inspired impaled Sororita bitch) Don't see those in such degrading but fetishist positions, do we?

I love this interpretation of Chaos Marines. 40K has such diversity to it that its got a little something for every kind of fantasy/sci-fi fan, and I love to see the factions portrayed in such a fitting manner. Chaos Worshipers are sadists and psychopaths on a whole new level beyond humans, and it's a shame when an artist "pretties them up" and makes them less twisted, because then they're not really Chaos worshipers at all.
So I give you my approval and admiration for portraying Slannesh in a perfectly fitting manner.

Well heh, I agree on the part that making them less twisted isn't good. But, thing is, in my opinion that in all their madness and stuff, it's the Chaos worshippers who've retained the essences of humanity, and that's what they carry along at the price they pay for it. They're the ones that - among humans of 40k - pursue individual goals, seek progress, seek knowledge, evolve, love, hate, have passion and coldness, dream and create. The imperium isn't moving anywhere, and it's drowning in the fact that it can't break through the limits it set for itself. The imperials are like servitors, not people.
But what other artists do and what I try no to, is show Chaos as you know, your typical UBER EVIL without anything else attached to it, when it's not evil but Chaos - a combination of both Good, Evil and what's in between, the lifeforce. And life/nature is indeed cruel and sadistic. But it's not as one-dimensional, that's why I make my characters not just crazy, but with actual personalities, goals and quirks)

Very true, I think you're right that Chaos is not pointless evil for no reason, and that they shouldn't just be assumed to be the "bad guys". They have personalities, they have reasons for what they do, and knowing that the Imperials are not saints (no matter how much they say they are), the side of Chaos can totally be understood.
Though I'm an Imperial guy myself, it would be stupid to try and convince that their the "Good Guys", since what is good and evil in 40k is all opinion-based.
It's the fantastic writting and depth that makes 40k so great. It's rare to come across a story that is so in-depth with every faction that it's up to the viewer to decide who they think is justified.

You know what, I like sharing my first spontaneous reactions, in this case it was something like "holysh-what the fuck". I think I could give you some technical critiques later, but I have to see it carefully, by now I'm finishing the Hydralisk

Okay, it's not much really, the whole image is really good, the perspective is kickass and the organic details superb, but this time you left many crooked lines around the armor, kinda rests quality to the metal rendering. Also, hair, I think it's not only here, but you usually paint the hair too stiff, I recommend you to pay more attention to the shades, even when it's harder to tell where to place them correctly on white/silver hair, and using a smaller diameter brush to paint scattered hairs here and there, that gives a lot of realism to hair, there are some brushes I use to paint hair, they help a lot, I could send it to you, if you want to.

It's pretty good, but for some reason Torturer looks a bit...chubby? Yes. Well...guess eating's one of the many pleasures of Slaanesh.
