I know. I cannot stand that. I will try to smooth at a certain degree and the realize that one part is too smooth and the other is perfect and yet another needs to be smoothed a little less etc. So I have to go all out and make like 15 material groups just for different smoothing angles. Then when you go to map it most apps want to take those material groups and make a UV for each one. So now I'm getting to the point where I'm going to bevel every edge over two or three times to make sure I can get a nice edge without smoothing. Not only that but if you make a model in wings and apply hardness to certain edges.. then move to lightwave it will lose those hard edges and eh, it can drive me crazy some times..

Yeah. Definitely get a lot of frustration with that. You and I both know when you have meshes of 250k+ polygons, you don't want to have to go looking at every goddamned one to make sure the smoothing is correct.
Then of course it sticks out like a sore thumb, AFTER the two hour render.

I know. It can really get to me. You know what would be really cool. This has nothing to do with smoothing but.. What would be really cool is if somebody or some company would figure out a way for you to paint textures on your model and then.. (not before) it could unwrap UV's itself and line them up and pack them good so you don't have to worry about it. lol. God I wish that would happen soon. I mean there is Z-brush, Bodypaint, Mudbox and 3d-coat but none of them unwrap well automatically. They do automatic unwrapping but it is never that great for hard objects or complex objects. Sure low poly unwrapping is not that hard and a human is not too bad because you can cut out stuff easy.. but when it comes to intricate greeble work and 1,000,000 polys it can really be a bitch. Call me crazy but I just know when I'm an old man and I have two months left to live some company will come out with that and I'll be pissed! lol!

I'm not exactly certain, but a friend told me that the program was capable of doing it.

OK. I checked it out and you can paint on the model but it does not generate UV's. You can UV it first and then paint and it will keep the painted UV's. Not bad but still not quite what us modelers need for easy texture/UV creation. It's getting there though. Thanks for the info!

Damn, I replied to myself. I bet you will not see it. LET ME COPY AND PAST THAT HERE//
Wow. You're an enigma. I think I knew you in another universe about 100,000 human years ago. You seem familiar now that I think about it. Luckily I do not lose my remembrance of the infinite past. Too bad I cannot foresee the infinite future. Well, my human brain could not store all of that infinite past and infinite future thought. Takes way too many gray matter Geopbytes! Still, you do seem oddly familiar to me.
Off topic.. wait?? Was I ever on topic anyway?? Still I'll go with it..

Yeah come to think of it I do think
humor is proof we exist.
because if I were say s creation of
your own imagination then nothing like
tripping up the stairs would happen to
you it would all happen to me, but since
you have tripped up the stairs, I must
exist because I find it funny and no one
finding themselves in a humiliating situation
finds it funny to start... wow it makes sense O.o
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TDBK In reply to Pesto-Posta [2008-12-15 03:35:27 +0000 UTC]
lol!! Well, not 100% there. Think about this..
What if everything was my creation and I did find it funny to have humiliating things happen to me? Maybe not even outright thought. Maybe in my subconscious I want to be humiliated and find it quite amusing. Think about times that you have been humiliated and then some weeks later you think about it and laugh at yourself. It could be you are wanting to laugh at yourself and the only way to do that is to be humiliated at some point.
Also, think about this. What if we are all imaginary. What if we are a type of program that has a safety mechanism built in so the program thinks it is a lot of individuals. That way the program does not corrupt itself that easily. One part goes bad and the other parts correct the problem. Even if we as individuals see it as bad. And we see it as happening to other individuals. Murder, war, death, viruses etc.. But in reality it's not really happening to the individual. It's just a defrag of the bad parts of the program. (Yeah, Matrix"ish" but that movie was not the first to raise that question)
I personally think we are all lifeforms and we are individual thinking things. That does not mean we are not all part of one thing though. We are all on earth and living in this universe and in this particular dimension. So we could all be the same thing. Eh, who knows. Maybe we are just human individuals in the "classic sense" and we each think when we are alive and then when we die and there is nothing more to it. So many possibilities.
Although, you could be right with your assumption.

Pesto-Posta In reply to TDBK [2008-12-15 06:46:32 +0000 UTC]
I am going against that, because
it goes against basic self preservation
to find your humiliation amusing *shrug*
as far as finding it amusing long after
the fact that is also self preservation
but in the I need to save my dignity to
survive
Hmm no if we were a program we could not
come up with the sentence, "This sentences
is faults." a computer program would crash
no matter how sophisticated it is, or at bet
be thrown into an inferential loop and the
one that came up with it would go over it
over an over O.o
as for simply being individuals I think
not, if that were the case then likely
we would have no effect on the quantum
level...
me I generally go with Decatur, "I think;
therefore, I am." because to me it ultimately
explains all the oddities of how things seem
to work

TDBK In reply to Pesto-Posta [2008-12-15 09:35:10 +0000 UTC]
It does not go against basic self preservation. There would be no comedy or comedians if that were true. One way some people get through life is by making fun of themselves and others. Self humiliation can be funny at the moment it happens. You just have to be the type to see past the ego and becoming relaxed with yourself. Hell, Buddhists and some other religions have sects that all they do is humiliate themselves for wisdom and knowledge and even for fun (in their own weird way).
"This sentences
is faults."
Not true. You are basing it on known concepts of computer programming. This would not be the case because you have no idea what type of program or language it's written in. Not only that but the program my not be "a program" there could be much more to it. Just sayin'.
If you break things down on the smallest level we are here and we are not here at the same time. So, until we know where things go for the moment they are not here we will not know anything about what we are here. I'm sure it'll be a while.. if ever, before they figure that out.

No no, laughter is a defense mechanism
in people (I wish I payed more attention
in class that day), but the long and short
of it is it basically helps us cope with our
disappointments, short comings and so on, at
least humor in this instance is a defense.
I am basing it off of logic, which is the
basics of computing, and computers, and if it
moves out if "program" then it become intelligence
and that brings me back to Decatur
On the Quantum level it seems to me that all there
is, is thought *shrug* o.O

TDBK In reply to Pesto-Posta [2008-12-16 21:32:51 +0000 UTC]
Laughter "can" be a defense mechanism. It is not all the time. It's left over from our primeval brain.. yes. Back when we would show our teeth and yell because we were frightened of a lion or whatever there was back then. It has evolved though as well as most other parts of our psyche. Not always a defense now. That is my opinion though..
We could go another 10,000 threads about this stuff and never come to an agreement. haha! Because it's impossible to agree on these types of things. Everyone has their own opinion. lol! Without hard scientific evidence we are just in the air.

Back when we showed out teeth...
we smile all the time and bare
our teeth, which I find really
odd O.o, if I were still doing
the psych thing I probably would
do a paper on that eh, well as far
as how we operate I go with the
basics Food, Shelter, Mate, and Power*
*which is basically Mate. To me at
at least it explains all of your
behaviors, that what why I was into
abnormal psych, that is where the
interesting stuff is found
As to your just air, what do you
think Philosophers do Oo, and wouldn't
you know it Plato (I think it is him)
came up with the atom, and later science
proved it right, seems to me that the
biggest problem with science is that
they have cut out the philosophers,
science should be testing the Philosophers
ideas and the Philosophers should be
philossiphizing, but that is my
opinion as a humble Stand-up Philosopher

TDBK In reply to Pesto-Posta [2008-12-17 07:17:24 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, philosophy is treated like some kind of bad haircut these days. It's interesting to note how many comedians are philosophy majors.
I'm not saying anything for sure. I'm just saying that science has not proven who we are, why we're here and what the universe is for or where it came from. I agree that philosophy is useful to science. I do believe that science does try and use philosophy and also Science-fiction as a base source to try new things. Look at a lot of sci-fi over the years. Engineers and scientists were into that and now a lot of it is happening. Science and imagination go hand in hand.

Kinda seems to me to be if
you are of a comedic mindset
then you are naturally philosophic *shrug*
Hmm I have to disagree science has a pretty,
good handle on what we are, but why we are
is still the question
Yeah philosophy is still kinda used but it
no longer has the status it once had

Oh yeah, I would love to sit around and think and get paid. You know.. if they still did that who knows what kind of ideas we would have now. It's funny how many people refer back to the old philosophers. Not many people refer to the ones working at McDonald's!
