I'm a begrudging Simpsons fan too. I'm old enough to remember proto Simpsons on the Tracey Ullman show. I watched the first Christmas Special, that introduced 'Santa's Helper' the dog, with my father.
Before that, my middle school friends and I were buying Matt Groening 'Life in Hell' books at the local Book Stop. That place was eventually bought up by other book store companies that have recently failed.
My friend Christian still has the original Life is Hell, Love is Hell, and School is Hell books.
