A lithe, humanoid figure dashed quickly through a series of darkened halls. It made a sharp right, then another sharp right, then a sharp left, then figured its way through a maze of gradual twists and turns. It turned into one final hallway and arrived in a large yet dark room. A screen lit up to show several different camera feeds, seemingly examining random habitats and villages all over the world. The screen flicked off a few moments after the figure entered.
The figure spoke, “Conqueror, I need to speak with you about some events that have been going on in the furthest region of our territory.”
“Yes?” a shadowy figure turned around. Wires and metal beams shifted as the figure moved slowly, mechanical gears groaning. Two green eyes peered out from the otherwise blackened shape.
“I don’t know if you were made aware,” the first creature began, “but a few humans were reported in Lord Tyrant’s territory several days ago.”
“He called me about it,” the Conqueror replied dismissively. “And he bawled about it. I don’t know what you did to Tyrant’s programming, but he sure does need to be regenerated a lot. Once he takes care of the humans, we’ll have to regenerate him again.”
“Well, about that,” the first figure muttered. “Lord Tyrant’s been defeated.”
“Degenerated or destroyed?”
“From a few of his soldiers that we found scattered around what was once his territory, I believe simply degenerated, however the egg was not recovered.”
“Are the humans behind his death?”
“From my understanding, yes,” he answered. “The soldiers weren’t there when death happened, but they were there when the humans arrived, and when the humans left, he was nowhere to be found. One even reported seeing the humans walk out with an egg that appeared to be of Lord Tyrant’s.”
The Conqueror sighed. “Have Desiree take control of his territory for now. Once Desiree’s situated, he can send out some search and rescue squads to find Tyrant’s egg. He’ll certainly be easy enough to find as an egg, assuming the accounts of the humans taking the egg were correct. But it’ll be a bit tougher once he hatches and starts walking around; I highly doubt he’ll still be hanging out with the humans at that point, considering the fact that you programmed him to run away from anything stronger than him.”
“An oversight in the programming that I’ve acknowledged,” the humanoid figure declared. “I was aware problems like this would pop up, which is why I gave them free thought, although I still understand that the program should control them more smoothly than it does. Would you like me to make the proper adjustments to the general’s program, so that when they’re regenerated, they’ll be able to handle situations like this properly?”
“No need to at this time,” the Conqueror stated boredly. “I’m assuming you’re already too busy working on the firearms and my suit, yes? How are those coming along?”
The humanoid figure raised his head. “The simple prototype for your suit should be ready for testing within a month, probably sooner. I believe I’m very close to a breakthrough in condensing the prisoners’ energies. As for the firearms, well, those are still a work in progress. But I’m sure I’ll have a breakthrough soon!”
The green eyes bobbed up in down in the motion of a nod. “Right, alright. Tell Desiree the news and what my current instructions are.”
“Should we send another general to help Lord Desiree out?” the humanoid Oneiromon asked. “I mean, Lord Tyrant was the second strongest of all the generals; if the humans could take down him, who’s to say they won’t take down Lord Desiree? Lord Desiree is crafty, but that can only get him so far.”
The green eyes narrowed. “I didn’t ask for your input. I know Desiree can handle it – you don’t give intelligence enough credit, considering you’re my scientist. If Desiree received help from another general, the rebellion would see Desiree as too weak to handle the sector himself, and would see him as a ruler who could be overthrown. And if Desiree somehow is defeated, well, it’ll just make my might all the more impressive when I finally finish my suit and crush that sector. It’s about time those rebellious morons admit themselves as part of my empire, and I don’t care how that’s done – as long as they fear my name.”
The other Oneiromon seemed baffled, but nodded anyways. “Alright, whatever you wish.” With that, the humanoid Oneiromon turned and walked off into the hallway, navigating his way through the dark maze once more.

“I have a feeling that some of the Conqueror’s forces may already be at the place, so we need to be careful. They might sneak up on us, too.”
Mich, Sarah, and Devin were all riding on Llabu, who was quickly running back towards Lord Tyrant’s palace. Astrea had been left at the village; Llabu had advised Devin to leave her at the village for her own safety
“Are you guys listening to me?” Llabu snapped.
“It’s been like an hour, Llabu, how could they already be at his palace?” Sarah groaned. “They aren’t technologically advanced enough to have high speed internet.”
“I guess some of Lord Tyrant’s soldiers could be lingering, but I don’t think they’d be a problem,” Mich stated.
Llabu narrowed her eyes. “You realize that we’re literally going back there because of a computer, right?” she growled. “Who’s to say they don’t have some form of wireless communication?”
“Still, they’d have to get there and stuff, right?” Mich asked. “And you’re running pretty fast.”
“And the Conquerors soldiers are running even faster,” Llabu snapped. “Just keep an eye out, alright?”
They parked at the bottom of the mountain’s craggy wall. Llabu quickly jumped up the wall and perched near the entrance. Sarah slammed her wings on the ground, sending Mich flying into the air in the process. Llabu grabbed him by the tail and heaved him onto the ledge.
“Thanks,” he panted, the wind nearly knocked out of him.
Sarah wrapped one of her wings around Devin, and thrust herself upwards with an air blast conducted by the other. She landed gracefully on the ledge.
She puffed out her chest. “I don’t even need to transform to fly!”
“Shut up,” Llabu whispered.
“Hey, you’re in no spot to yell at me for bragging,” Sarah snapped back.
“I mean be quiet, because I’m trying to listen,” Llabu hissed.
“Oh.”
The humans remained silent for a few moments. Nothing could be heard besides the whistling of the wind through the leaves and crevices of the mountain.
“…I don’t hear anything, I think we’re safe,” Llabu stated quietly.
“Well then let’s go in!” Sarah exclaimed and trotted forwards.
Sarah watched Llabu look around suspiciously, peeking around every corner and cranny to make sure no one was hiding there.
“I think you’re just paranoid; there’s no one here,” Sarah declared.
“That’s what horror movie protagonists say before they’re killed,” Llabu growled.
At last, they managed to stumble their way into Lord Tyrant’s old room. Devin backed up as the other humans walked in, a scared look on his face.
“Devin?” Sarah asked, turning around. “Come on, there’s no one in there.” She grabbed him by the paw and dragged him into the room.
Mich turned on a light switch.
Llabu quickly surveyed the area. “I don’t see anything,” she stated.
“The computer’s busted though,” Sarah said quietly. She walked over to a smashed metal box, falling to her knees. She shifted through the remains of the computer, but couldn’t find anything. “There’s nothing here.” She sighed. Another dead end…
“I guess our best bet is to try to get some information out of Desiree, then,” Mich replied. “Right?”
Llabu nodded. “There’s nothing else we can do, really, if you guys want to get home.”
“But we’ve already been gone for so long…” Sarah trailed off. When will we get home? Will we even be able to get home…? She clenched her wings, trying to bite back the overwhelming disappointment.
“And I’ve been here even longer. It sucks, but there’s nothing else we can do about it,” Llabu responded coldly.
Sarah stiffened. “…Fine.”
“If they managed to destroy the computer, they’re probably still hanging out around here,” Llabu stated as the humans walked out of the room. “So keep an eye out.”
“As if you hadn’t reminded us to do that before,” Sarah replied sarcastically.
The humans once again began stumbling their way to the other side of the fortress.
Llabu suddenly froze. “Don’t move,” she snapped at the other humans.
They froze. Sarah stared ahead. What did she see?
Suddenly two metallic feathers shot at the humans from the shadows. Llabu slid aside, dodging the one, and Sarah managed to drag Devin out of the way of the other.
“Go get backup!” a voice shouted from the shadows. “I’ll hold ‘em off!”
Sarah could hear footsteps dash out of the hallway.
“Oh no you won’t,” Llabu growled. She quickly transformed, the shine from her transformation illuminating the black bird hiding in the shadows.
“That’s the guy who kidnapped me!” Devin exclaimed.
Llabu’s tail morphed into a sharp fin shape, and she sliced it along the black bird’s throat, quickly disposing of him. He shrieked in pain, then poofed into an egg.
“I’ll go after the other one! Try to keep up!” Llabu shouted at the other humans, then ran down the hallway.
Sarah could still here the footsteps of the other Oneiromon, who was likely moving too fast to pay attention to how loud they were running, and figured that Llabu could still hear them as well.
Eventually a light could be seen, taunting the humans as they winded through twists and turns to find it. A shrill screech let out, and Sarah heard a crash. I’m assuming that means Llabu caught him, then.
Sure enough, as the humans burst out into the sunlight, Llabu already had a paw sitting on top of the egg. “That takes care of that,” she remarked, “but we should still get out of here, just in case.”
“I think it’s a little late for that,” Mich answered.
Sarah turned around. Conqueror soldiers surrounded the four humans, outnumbering them two or three to one.
Sarah instinctively put a wing out to protect Devin, while Mich transformed and prepared to attack.
“Tell us where you took Lord Tyrant!” one of the soldiers shouted.
“And tell us how you defeated him!” another shouted.
“Never mind that, let’s just kill them!” a third exclaimed. “Cornelius already knows where they’re keeping Lord Tyrant, but we can’t go get him until we dispose of these four. Or we could, but we might as well degenerate ‘em first, since we’re here.” The soldiers launched into attack.
Sarah felt something sting her in the back. She winced at the pain. She could feel something lodged in her back, and she reached back to pull it out.
“Sarah, don’t move,” Llabu said. “There’s a dagger lodged in your back. If you move it, you could degenerate.”
Sarah froze.
Devin transformed and leaped at the Oneiromon that had fired the dart as his sister. Mich and Llabu followed suit, attacking the surrounding soldiers.
Sarah sat in the middle of the fray, frantically avoiding attacks yet trying not to move. Not this again… she muttered, I can’t be useless in another battle! She heard something storming up behind her. She whipped around, facing off against another soldier. She narrowed her eyes and fired an air blast at the soldier. The attack hit its target, but as it did, Sarah yelped in pain. The dagger had carved a long, deep indent into her back.
Llabu froze two of the soldiers and used her signature neck slash against them, then repeated with another batch of opposing Oneiromon. Mich hit one soldier with a fireball, then crushed it with his tail.
Devin stood on top of one soldier, pinning the avian to the ground. “It’s for your own good,” Sarah could hear him whisper. He raised his paws briefly, then fired a beam of light at the bird. All that remained was an egg.
Llabu finished off the last of the soldiers, then rushed over to Sarah. The owl was stopped in place, still wincing from the groove the dagger had carved in her back.
“Good, it’s only lodged in the skin,” Llabu observed. She gripped it with her jaw and quickly pulled the dagger.
Sarah let out a yelp of pain, then rubbed her wing against the spot where the dagger had gone in. “No blood?” she asked in confusion.
“Oneiromon don’t have blood,” Llabu replied simply. “They have a concentrated energy source inside them. In fact, at room temperature, it should be air, not liquid; the only reason its liquid is because it’s so compressed. If an Oneiromon’s skin is broken through, the energy comes spilling out in an explosion and the Oneiromon dies – either from the force of the explosion or the energy loss. Thankfully Oneiromon are built with tough, thick skin, so stuff like this isn’t a one-shot kill.”
“Oh,” Sarah answered. “How lovely.”
“Just keep that area safe during training and stuff, and you should be okay,” Llabu added.
Sarah nodded.
The four humans traveled back to the village in silence. A wave of despair washed over Sarah as they walked. All of this work…and we’re still stuck here. Mom and Dad are probably worried sick. Is it even worth trying to go home anymore? She shook her head. Of course it is. If it was just me, maybe I wouldn’t care, but… She looked down at Devin, who also seemed lost in thought. I’m not going to rest until Devin is back home safely.
As the humans entered the village, Sarah noticed two familiar shapes sitting on a rock in the village.
“Triopmon! Amp!” Mich exclaimed, waving at them.
As the humans got closer, Sarah noticed that Triopmon had his head down, a tear streaking down the left side of his face.
Mich’s enthusiasm drained from his face. “Triopmon? Amp?” he asked. “What happened?”

Trigger warning for: Fantasy violence, stab wounds (no blood), murder, but nothing much more than you'd see in a TVY7 cartoon
We are finally BACK and everyone is just as big of a dick as they were before
Fun fact - this chapter was written long before Arc 1 finished, as were the next few chapters. There's a certain chapter/section that was giving me hell for several months, and I'll try to remember to point it out BUT because of that, there might be a sudden style shift in writing of the story? I really dont know, I cant tell, but if you notice it then that's why |D
Besides that, I still can't be bothered to put effort into the accompanying drawings and I now have a new system set up for trigger warnings! It allows me to warn for violence without warnings feeling redundant and keeps people who like to be surprised by the content of a story surprised, since they dont have to check for the trigger warning! If you have any better suggestions for my trigger tagging system I'd love to hear them, but I think this one will work pretty well! I'm currently working on updating the old chapters with these same trigger warnings, so keep an eye out for that.
Oneiromon is C me
If you like this series, please leave a favorite and/or a comment so I know to continue it! I have a hard time getting motivated to work on a story, but if others actually enjoy the story, I should be able to muster the motivation to finish it! : D And if you see any typos, please, let me know so I can correct them! Critiques are HIGHLY appreciated as well! I'm always trying to improve my craft. I'm mostly looking for feedback on the story/writing part and not the picture, as these drawings are done rather lazily and hastily, but any kind of critique is highly appreciated! I'd love to hear your feedback, even if it's just a sentence or two~
