Step 1, whisch I decided not to cover because it was basically covered in 'Process of Art' in my scraps section. If you need a fresh up on it, check it out, but other widse, step one consists of sketching and creating a line art picture

Step2 Now the fun with coloring starts. FIRST! Make sure ALL pencil marks are erased off the picture. Pencil marks believe it or not show up through colored pencil and other mediums. TO start with, Step 2 is basically colored penciling the line art. My suggestion is to start with shadowing. Shadow with your like colored pencil of choice. For instance, on Firefly in this picture, I chose to use a magenta prismacolor colored pencil. Let me explain why. YOu can color over the dark color with lighter colors, and it will still show through, only BLENDED. it makes for a smooth transition, as in when you shade after your done coloring the piece, you realise that the darker color strangely sits on top of the lighter ones, making it look terribly unnatural! Next, You'll want another shade of the same color, I chose a medum pink and colored darker over and near the magenta, and lighter towards other areas, using discretion as to where the shading and light source of the picture is. Next, finish the coloring job with another colored pencil, even lighter. For efect, I used a peachy color.

Please note, not everyone will agree with this, but pleasepress moderately when coloring so that the coat is thick, it will be IMPORTANT on step three. Most people will disagree because the wax used in colored pencils eventually rise to the surface of the picture, but the wax coat is EXACTLY what you will need on step three.
