Alexander Jansson is a Swedish deviant artist of longstanding who is responsible for some of the most delightful fantasy creatures and beings inhabiting wildly surreal dreamscapes where dimensionality and all other rationality has been checked at the door. His often vast vistas of strangeness instantly recall the architecture of Hieronymus Bosch’s nightmare pieces, but these are invitingly playful wonderlands rather than Hell’s nether regions.

His creations pass one of the great tests for fantasy art: We are left wishing there were an accompanying literary narrative telling us more about the story of this odd world we can only visit through Alexander’s paintings. We want to know about these creatures in this strangely twisted Eden.
