I finally got around to reading the story that went with this piece. What a great adventure! You did an excellent job of setting the scene and choosing vocabulary that made it really immersive and gave that Western feeling. While probably entirely coincidental, the Detective in the Expanse series-- who would probably get along very well with Nick-- always wears a pork pie hat. The reference to pirates was also a great little addition!
