Description
For my friend Adam. I have drawn on what I know of the spirit world, tribes, and totems for the design. It is meant to evoke the passage of consciousness into the spirit world with the assistance of a monkey totem. The three suns in the topmost area of the canvas represent a warm climate.

This is a piece of fractal art (best described as mathematical art) made in a program called Apophysis. Once the image has been created in Apophysis, I bring it into Photoshop for finishing. Photoshop has been used very sparingly here, mostly for the black background. This style of fractal is called a "gnarl". Many gnarls resemble the flow of ink dispersing in water, or air or smoke meeting some solid object. Naturally this one has been reshaped to resemble masks or faces. I would have preferred a different color scheme (blue, white, gold), but managing the gradient in Apophysis was very tough with this one. In the end, I settled for coloring that reminded me of something tribal.
