Description As indicated by the title this is the second companion piece for the Earth-53 continuity. If you’ve not read the first and are at all interested here’s a link to follow. technomizer.deviantart.com/art…

The Entity - For as long as recorded history in the galaxy the Guardians of Oa have sought out the beings they call the “Emotional Entities”. Creatures of pure emotional power that could be considered avatars of the factors of life itself. Each of these entities has in fact been the main source of power for the many different colored Power Ring Crops throughout the universe, focusing the powers of will, fear, rage, avarice, hope, compassion and love. However the Guardians believe that of all there is one unaccounted for: the being of life itself.

The Book of Oa, containing the histories and prophecies of the Guardians themselves, tells of a legend that the Entity, who was not given a true name, traveled all around the universe and gave life to nearly every planet it discovered. It showered down on every surface a pure white light that created the first living organisms to ever exist. After possible centuries of flying through space the Entity simply vanished without a trace.

While this is still considered a legend among most there are some who believe that if this Entity was real then it would be the key to understanding life itself. While some seek that information for knowledge there are others who would seek it for their own gain. One of which being the tyrant New God Darkseid.

After discovering the origins of the legend of the Entity for himself Darkseid believes that by finding it he will gain the key to the Anti-Life Equation, the formula he seeks to control all of life itself. While he is as lost as even the Guardians are to the Entity’s whereabouts he, like many, still searches through his conquering of one world after another; even if subjugating the races is the next best thing.

The Crime Syndicate of Earth - As one of Earth’s brilliant scientific minds Alexander “Lex” Luthor had been among the many to theorize the existence of alternate realties. The idea of other dimensions where events in histories have been altered even to the slightest variation from even the smallest of choices and circumstance, thus creating what was dubbed “Infinite Earths Theory” by Luthor himself. Knowing it was true Luthor spent many years and resources perfecting what he hoped would be a means of traveling to one of these alternate earths and finding what was desperately needed: heroes to combat the villainous Crime Syndicate.

Ever since their arrival the Crime Syndicate, the world’s greatest supervillains, had claimed near total authority over their world. They were led by the alien criminal known as Ultraman who used his immense power to intimidate and in some cases eliminate any forms of opposition. He was joined by those like the crime lord of Gotham Owlman, the Amazonian warlord Queen Superwoman, the super-speed criminal calling himself Johnny Quick, the emerald ring wielding menace Power Ring, and the Martian hunter known only as White Martian. Together they established their own super-powered criminal organization that rallied others under their command. Establishing his command and demonstrating a warning to any other non-Earthly powers in the universe Ultraman had dubbed this organization the Crime Syndicate of Earth.

For fear of losing the world to these monsters and what their megalomaniac attitudes would do to it Lex Luthor, while working on his project to find another Earth, rallied his own team of crime fighters and heroes to counter the Crime Syndicate. They became what some had called a “Secret Society of Superheroes”, working from the shadows and striking out against members of the Syndicate in the name of freedom for the Earth.

Heroic as the Society was they were ill matched against the superior raw power of Ultraman and his Syndicate cohorts. Luthor and his friends fought bravely and died to further his goal of creating a device that would enable him to travel to another Earth, which thanks to his research was soon discovered.

Much to Luthor’s surprise the alternate Earth he discovered had its own version of the Crime Syndicate, although they were in fact known as the Justice League. Once his device was ready Luthor traveled to the parallel Earth and made contact, telling the League of the blight the Crime Syndicate had on his world. Anticipating from their attitudes and heroic dispositions he already knew they would agree to help.

Upon returning to Luthor’s Earth he and the Justice League fought against smaller cells of the Crime Syndicate’s operations while working their way up to the main six members. During their little war they discovered that Ultraman and Owlman had created a doomsday device they planned to use to hold the world ransom, something powerful enough to destroy the entire Earth itself if the governments of the world refused to finally bow down to them.

Not all in the Crime Syndicate agreed with this plan. The two members who began to question their leader’s ideas were the daughter of Johnny Quick, called “Jesse Quick”, and Ultraman’s own cousin Power Girl. Both began to see the error of their mentor/family member’s ways and inevitably joined with Luthor and the League to combat them; giving all vital information they had on the members.

Eventually the Justice League, aided by Luthor and the turncoats, and the Crime Syndicate met within their base of operations in their version of Metropolis and fought. As the battle turned the tide for the League Ultraman, refusing to let everything he worked for be torn down, activated the device and knew he would survive if he just flew away. Both Superman and Luthor did not agree to this however and fought him to keep him from going anywhere while everyone escaped.

In the ensuing battle the portal back to the League’s Earth was opened, all of the members escaping along with Power Girl and Jesse Quick. Johnny Quick and White Martian were killed in the battle by Luthor’s closest friend, the Jester, while Power Ring’s namesake weapon, which had a mind of its own, removed itself from him in search of a new host in the new Earth. Superwoman had been subdued by Wonder Woman and then left for dead by Owlman, whom had been her secret lover behind Ultraman’s back. He claimed the new world wasn’t big enough for all of them and fled.

Unable to stop the device and with little options left Superman agreed to stay and fight to keep Ultraman at bay. Luthor, however, thought otherwise and forced Superman back to his Earth, claiming “Your world needs a Superman just as much as it needs a Lex Luthor. That’s why I’m staying and you’re going.” Before the portal finally collapsed the last thing Superman had seen was a smile on Luthor’s face as the world was destroyed around him and Ultraman came in for the killing blow.

Whether Luthor, Ultraman, Superwoman or anyone else from the Syndicate’s Earth survived still remains a mystery. Of those that did manage to escape Power Girl and Jesse Quick were both integrated into the Justice League and the Titans groups; Supergirl coming to terms with her otherworldly doppelganger. The whereabouts of Owlman and the Power Ring are still unknown. Out of respect for the Luthor of the alternate world and his Secret Society a memorial had been established at the Hall of Justice where it currently sits as testament to the heroes from an alternate world.

GothCorp - While Gotham’s city’s largest conglomerate has always been Wayne Enterprises GothCorp has always maintained a steady second. Much like Bruce Wayne using his resources to better mankind GothCorp’s own Ferris Boyle, a recognized humanitarian, sought to better mankind. Unlike Wayne however Boyle’s main concern was ensuring profit over public affection.

Through GothCorp’s questionable research methods Boyle competed with Wayne’s business in the hopes of eventually outdoing him with his own humanitarian efforts. Even if the means were not exactly legal. Those that tried to otherwise go against his plans were often met with fatal responses; a means for Boyle to keep his and GothCorp’s reputation as clean as possible.

GothCorp’s research had come into question before when it was discovered one of Gotham’s supervillains, the Man-Bat, was in fact Dr. Kirk Langstrom, who was using GothCorp’s funding for his research. Boyle had denied any direct responsibility for Langstrom and, in truth, he was innocent. A similar case arouse involving marine biologist Grace Balin, she herself taking on a radical transformation and become the Orca. Yet again Boyle was found innocent of any connections and in fact had helped proved the true culprit was another scientist, Dr. Achilles Milo.

Only a year after the debacle with Milo did Boyle’s true nature finally come to light with the return of Dr. Victor Fries, someone Boyle had thought dead. After an accident caused by Boyle to save his wife from a terminal disease Dr. Fries was exposed to an unstable chemical that altered his body to where he needed to stay in sub-zero temperatures to survive. Creating an environmental suit and being dubbed “Mr. Freeze” he sought revenge on Boyle and was only stopped thanks to the efforts of the Batman.

After his crimes were exposed Ferris Boyle faced many charges and was eventually imprisoned. GothCorp itself had been bought up little by little by other companies like Wayne Enterprises and even outside sources like Queen Consolidations and Kord Industries. Needless to say many hoped that with GothCorp no longer in power it would mean less chance of more super-criminals breeding in Gotham City.

The Research of Al Pratt - At least three decades ago Albert “Al” Prat was a brilliant scientist who studied in physiology and biochemistry. While boxing his way through college he theorized the idea of manipulating the size of any matter in order to solve worldwide epidemics like famine and overpopulation. Unfortunately he never fully finished his studies for there was some missing component in his formula and technology he developed during his life.

His research did not end with him however and was instead continued by his protégé from New England’s Ivy University, Ray Palmer. Like Prat Palmer had the same ideals by using this theory to benefit the world itself. After Prat eventually passed he continued to develop the technology but like his teacher he too could not find the right component to complete the process. Even his partner and then lover Dr. Doris Zeul, a woman more of fortune that scientific benefit, could not fully understand the process.

While having a romantic night with Doris she and Ray witnessed something of an anomaly as a strange beam of light appear in the sky, hitting the surface nearby before eventually disappearing. (This would later turn out to be caused by the space traveler Adam Strange and his use of the Zeta Beams technology.) When the two discovered the spot where the beam had come from they found inside a small crater a small mass of white dwarf star matter. The dazzling white light material had drawn Palmer to eventually take it back to his laboratory to study it.

Using the discovered materials he’d found from the white dwarf star matter Palmer had finally discovered the missing components in order to finish Pratt’s formula. His initial tests were a success, even to him crafting the material into an advanced environmental suit he then tested on himself; shrinking to microscopic levels. As great as the breakthrough was Doris wanted to take it father as what Ray thought safe.

Being the scientist of profit that she was Doris wanted to exploit the growth technology and sell it to military arms in the hopes of gaining wealth. When Ray refused however she became furious, leading to the two breaking up and Doris taking a sample of the white dwarf matter herself to test. Heartbroken Ray had hidden all of his research and decided not to use it again if it meant losing more of his personal life.

During his retirement from his studies Ray continued at Ivy University where he eventually crossed paths with judicial studies student Jean Loring. While the two did not see eye-to-eye at first eventually they became closer and more intimate to the point where Ray revealed his findings to Loring herself. While not fully understanding the scientific background she found it amazing, dubbing Ray as “the Human Atom”.

Not until the university was robbed and Jean, having the judicial information on the known suspects to lead the way, did Ray finally re-dawn his suit and use it to find and subdue the criminals. He found that despite his small size he still retained his normal physical strength which proved a greater benefactor when dealing with the thieves. It was after this that Jean had convinced him to use his technology for good, to fight against criminals who would otherwise skirt the law. Thus Ray Palmer took up the mantel of a crime fighter, the Ivy Town Papers calling him “The Atom”.

The Strange Experiments of Simon Stagg - The works of Simon Stagg and Stagg Enterprises had benefited the world time and time again. With researches and developments ranging in the fields of energy, engineering, chemistry and genetics Stagg had proved to be a competitor with the likes of Wayne Enterprises. However some felt Stagg’s methods may have been unscrupulous, many willing to testify to this often winding up missing not too long after.

Four years ago Emily Sung, industrial agent, had infiltrated Stagg Enterprises to learn more about the CEO and his unsettling research. After months of deduction and sleuthing she’d found one of his experiments involved using genetic elements from the Gotham City supervillain Clayface, whom he’d somehow managed to procure and imprison in his labs, to create a new element dubbed “Metamorphum”. The intent was to create a new breed of super soldiers to be sold to the highest bidder.

Before she could escape with this information Agent Sung was found and captured by Stagg. Without the risk of letting her run free Stagg instead decided to test out the Metamorphum element on Emily herself; deciding if she died all the better. Once injected Emily’s entire body had become unstable, eventually melting into a formless goo. Stagg’s studies had shown however there were signs of life inside, deciding to keep the remains for further study.

Two years after the incident Simon’s daughter, Sapphire Stagg, returned home from college with her boyfriend Rex Mason. Simon secretly disapproved of Mason, finding him to be a young man with no real goals in life and a terrible future for his daughter. Still to keep her happy he kept his illusion, trying to instead focus on his work to keep himself occupied.

Not long after Rex had come to Simon personally in his offices in Gotham City to tell that he intended to marry Sapphire with his consent. Enraged but remaining calm Simon had managed to fool Rex into his labs where he soon exposed him to the same Metamorphum chemical he’s used on Emily Sung with the intent of killing him. What Stagg did not expect was that unlike Emily Rex’s body soon stabilized itself, Rex now having a more monstrous looking form.

Horrified and confused Rex fled, catching the attention of police and civilians in the city. This of course soon caught the attention of Gotham’s Dark Knight, the Batman, into investigating. At the same time Stagg ordered for his men to capture and contain Rex in the hopes of covering up the incident and using him for more studying; as well as for his personal reason to lie about Rex’s death to his daughter. Thankfully for Rex Batman had found him first, the two working together to stop Stagg and expose him.

With Stagg facing charges and Sapphire reunited with Rex, looking past his mutations for the sake of still loving him, Batman continued to look into the unethical research he’d been doing over the years. Through this he’d found the imprisoned Calyface, having him sent back to Arkham Asylum, and the remains of Emily Sung. The remains themselves were taken back to S.T.A.R. Labs for further study.

While Rex Mason, now taking the name “Metamorpho” soon joined the ranks of Batman’s Outsiders group, Emily Sung’s remains were still left to be studied. For weeks scientists such as Harrison Wells and Niles Caulder had sought a means of curing Sung’s condition. Eventually the introduced a possible catalyst, derived from Rex Manson’s DNA, to bring her back. The process worked, to a degree, and Emily was brought back, although now possessing a similar look and abilities as Metamorpho.

Much like Rex Emily had to grow accustom to her new body and powers. She remained in S.T.A.R. Labs where she learned how to control herself, eventually growing more and more eager on the idea of being like Rex and becoming a superhero. While some in the established Justice League were hesitant those like Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Arrow vouched for her. Now with the name “Elemental Woman” Emily Sung was officially among the ranks.

In time Metamorpho eventually rose through the ranks of the Outsiders and became an official member to the Justice League itself. By that time Emily Sung had decided to ‘retire’ for the time being and remain as a reserve member for the League. Currently she remains at S.T.A.R. Labs where she assists those like Dr. Harrison Wells, whom she’s been rumored to have been seeing intimately.

Warworld - The Weaponers of Qward were among the most dangerous race in the known universe for the namesake creations of destruction. While some weapons were made for others, at the right price, others were kept for themselves to remain in power. Such fear of a pending attack came from the neighboring planet and its people, the Warzoons.

Like the Weaponers the Warzoons were masters of creating weapons and tools of war. However theirs was a poor comparison to the works of the Weaponers and they knew it. The brightest of the Warzoon scientists soon devised what was to be the ultimate weapon the universe would ever see: a warship the size of a planet.

Little to nothing is known of how it was achieved but at the cost of the entire Warzoon race the weapon, dubbed the “Warworld” was created within the span of millennium. The last of the race died off while trying to use the weapon’s neural interface controls to pilot it towards Qward itself. For the longest time the Warworld remained unused and abandoned until it was found the alien tyrant turned exile Mongul.

After discovering Warworld Mongul used it, taking full control of his mental controls with little strain, and began his plots to conquer all of the known universe; starting with the very planet that had exiled him.  With Warworld’s vast superior arsenal it proved little challenge. Now with both his home world and the Warworld under his control Mongul began his champagne to conquer the universe; leaving his world to be ruled by his son, Mongul II.

For his own personal amusement Mongul had repurposed a section of the Warworld to become a gladiatorial arena, giving some worlds the chance at freedom if they could best beasts, machines, other warriors and even himself in several fights. None had succeeded, the only exception being the warrior maiden Maxima from the planet Almerac. Admiring her strength and determination, as well as her beauty, Mongul spared her planet on the prospect of keeping her as a personal champion for the Warworld; her people forced to agree.

Time passed and more worlds fell to Mongul’s control until he discovered Superman, the last Kryptonian, during a peaceful mission to one of the nearby planets. Capturing him and forcing him to fight Mongul was impressed with Superman’s powers, even against Maxima. The battle maiden herself was also aroused by Superman’s power, near begging Mongul to let her have him as a mate. Mongul however refused, wanting to keep the Kryptonian as another example of how powerful Mongul had become.

Superman eventually escaped, thanks to the aid of Maxima herself, and the two fought Mongul into submission. They fled and the warlord felt humiliated by the incident and vowed revenge Superman and his adopted home planet Earth.

One such attempt came when Mongul had secretly come to Earth and infiltrated the hidden Fortress of Solitude. He tricked Superman into opening a case containing an extraterrestrial planet called the Black Mercy, ensnaring him and feeding off him while keeping him an a deep dream-like state. It was only thanks to the efforts of Wonder Woman, Batman and then Tim Drake Robin that they were able to free Superman and trap Mongul with the Black Mercy on himself.

While leaving the subdued Mongul in a hidden room within the Fortress his son, Mongul II grew concerned about his father’s absence. Taking on the task himself he traveled to the Warworld’s last coordinates and discovered what his father had done. Finding both the Fortress and his father still under the control of the Black Mercy he smuggled him off, taking him back to the Warworld to free him.

It wasn’t until Mongul was freed that both he and his son realized that during their absence on their home planet that another uprising occurred, apparently caused by members of the Sinestro Lantern Corp. Mongul berated his son for being so foolish before both returned, a long and argues fight awaiting them.

While both Monguls still continue to fight for control of their planet the interstellar warlord still holds his plans for revenge on Superman. But after the incident with the Black Mercy he now holds a vendetta against all heroes of Earth, planning to bring all of them to their knees when the time is right.

The Shadowpact - Ever since their first assemblage to defend the world from a star conquering menace the Justice League has protected the earth from threats both Earth based and extraterrestrial. Over time the original seven members soon gained a greater following, inducting many other heroes into their ranks to help defend Earth. But not all threats could be handled by sheer numbers and powers.

Five years after the League’s first incarnation a magical villain known as Felix Faust began to enact plans to resurrect the lord of chaos Mordru. When facing off against this menace after Faust was successful many of the League members, including Superman, Batman and Green Lantern, were magically imprisoned as trophies. Among those who were able to escape were Wonder Woman and Zatanna, one of the newer members to the League.

With all hope seeming lost Zatanna suggested both she and Wonder Woman seek the aid of those like the Phantom Stranger and the Specter, powerful magical forces of order and justice in the world. When both proved to be useless she knew of only one other man who could help: John Constantine. Knowing him both professional and intimately, formerly at least, she knew he would have the needed skills and knowledge to combat Mordru.

After traveling to Liverpool to find him the two heroines explained the situation, Constantine agreeing but only after they recruited more magically oriented heroes like themselves. The others included the ghost of acrobat Boston Brand, known as “Deadman”, Kent Nelson the once retired host of the spirit of order Nabu, known then and now as “Doctor Fate”, and the living force of nature itself only known as “Swamp Thing”. Finally banded together the heroes all lead an assault against Mordru as he began to cast a spell to grant total dominance over the world.

The battle was intense but her heroes proved to be capable enough to eventually defeat Mordru, sending into a distance reality where he would remain trapped forever. During the fighting however Felix Faust had escaped and Kent Nelson, sacrificing himself to save the life of Zatanna, was killed in action. Even with the Justice League freed and the world safe from harm it still felt like a hollow victory. A memorial was placed within the League’s Watchtower base for Nelson to honor his sacrifice.

Even with the threat of Mordur gone there was still the concern of other magical enemies such as hi coming into power. Because of that memberships were offered to Constantine and the remaining band of magical heroes. While agreeing Constainte felt that the group would be best suited to work more freely on their own terms, many of the League’s founding members agreeing with Zatanna, now a full member of both teams, acting as a correspondence. While Barry Allen had nicknamed the new group “Justice League Dark” Constantine had felt the more appropriate title would be “the Spadowpact”.

Since their formation the Spadowpact, much like the League, had grown its own impressive roster of heroes. From Jason Blood, the host of the demon Etrigan, the mysterious plant-human hybrid known as the “Black Orchid”,  the all-seer prophetess Madame Xanadu, the magically concealed Rory Regan, called “Ragman”, and even the Phantom Stranger and Specter themselves. There was even a time were Teen Titan member Raven had become an honorary member of the ranks.

To this day the Shadowpact still continues their vigilant watch for any magical and otherworldly threats to Earth. From those like Black Briar Throne, Wotan and even the powerful Enchantress the team had always been ready to stand guard and maintain order and balance to the world.
