Aside from just being really, really, pretty, can I just say that I think the way you convey emotion is awesome? You've got all four facial expressions portraying a different side of the war (and not one usually seen, either, in comparison to all of the other revolutionary fanworks out there), and it's a very powerful statement as far as Hetalia is concerned.

I like the actual illustration.. but I am not crazy at the mood of it.. I don't find it to be true to history... the general British morale among their military ranks for the American militia and the Continental Army was one of revulsion and disgust.. there was no sadness except over the corpses of loved ones... the Revolutionary War was one of the most visceral and hateful wars America has ever fought, second only to the Civil War. The British soldier was taught in every way that the American was a sub-human peasant who refused to bend knee to that which "gave" them their rights.
Also if one of the two soldiers should be taller in stature it should be the British one. The British Empire totaled over 10 million people while the America's barely broke 2 million.
I am generally a fan of the sad contemplative soldier look, however the Revolutionary War was a War of Ideals and Freedom. The Revolutionary War spilled blood in hatred until the last soldier breathed his last breath.

Hey that was really insightful info and a thoughtful comment ^^. Thanks so much, though maybe I should explain that this isn't a representation of real history. It's from the manga/anime 'Axis Powers Hetalia' where the nations of the world are carigaturized into young men or women and history is re-enacted in a comic boy love way.
The mood is sad because the characters (America and England) were as close as brothers (England took care of America) and then they had to face each other on different sides when America wanted independence. Hope that explained it!
