Description
This small fortification guards a road leading to the borders of the kingdom. Patrols keep the surrounding area safe from bandits and monsters, ensure the safety of travelers, and collect the appropriate taxes (or 'taxes' depending on the garrison's level of honesty). This could be considered a prestigious posting for its garrison; a chance to operate independently out in the frontier, braving dangers and protecting the flow of trade - or it could be a dead-end outpost, a place for failures and the disgraced to be swept under the rug where nothing important happens - until one day, something Very Important happens to those ill-equipped to handle it.
